I have a dancer who is 12 of ok Ballet standard who has decided that she would like a demi character dance with a dutch theme, now I used to have the ideal piece, but I lost it years ago and I don't know what it was called so I'm on the lookout for a new piece. It can't have any lyrics to it so I need a Classical or an Easy Listening piece, can anybody help me please?
Thank you 3 Replies to Music help for a demi character dance | re: Music help for a demi character dance en>fr fr>en By lidwina Comments: 5759, member since Sat Dec 30, 2006On Tue Oct 13, 2009 12:52 PM
I'm Dutch so I feel the need to help you .
But I don't have a clue on what music .
Streetorgans are very common here, but that's absolutely nothing for a solo/classical/easy listening/ballet/etc.
There is a lot of wooden shoes stuff, but I can't imagine any teenager who wants to be seen in them (not here anyway).
There is a dance from Hans van Manen, a famous balletchoreograper, with wooden shoes. He made it for all (retired) dancers of the Dutch National Ballet, so it had to be for all ages. Again, not what you're looking for.
Help me to help you . Anything to inspire me is welcome. | re: Music help for a demi character dance en>fr fr>en By hummingbird Comments: 4298, member since Tue Apr 19, 2005On Tue Oct 13, 2009 01:20 PM
Yes lidwina, it's the wooden shoes that inspired her.
Last year most of my corrections for her were about using her feet and moving through the foot not the heel into the next movement so she came up with this idea about the wooden shoes.
I have the clog dance from La Fille mal Gardee already, but it would be better if it wasn't so well known. | |

(Here teenagers vomit when I say 'wooden shoes'.)
Let's start with this one, it's the clogdance I told you about. This time performed by dancestudents because of the opening of the Dutch Dance Days.
In the original, which I couldn't find, the floor was one big chessboard, and the dancers were stepping in and out of their squares. It is absolutely a group dance, but maybe it inspires you to something else.

How about familiar Dutch songs? Like 'Tulips from Amsterdam' or 'Along the Amsterdam canals'. You might recognise parts of it, and there are orchestra editions of it (I'll search now), which make it more classical.
