Hi

Im going into a Primary School to teach a Year 1 class in a couple of weeks time and I'm really stuck for ideas.

The children will be 6/7 years of age and the majority of them would never have danced before. I've also got boys and girls in the class.

I'm really unsure about what theme to make the dance and secondly what music to use.

I had a thought about using 'Wake up Toes' by Joanie Bartels but do you think that the song is too young for a 6/7 Year old?

I also don't want to do anything too girly if boys are in the class.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that is too young. Why not use music that they would listen to. Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Taylor Swift, Disney Stuff.
I would do alot with basic co-ordination. If you get to balletic, you might turn off some of the boys. If you keep the class moving with basic moves, rythyms and steps that would be the best way to go. Not a jazz class, but a basic dance class.
