I agree with wanting to see more of Mr. Wall. Talented tyke that one is!

Suzanne, we can always count on you for the backstage skinny!

I love the truth behind the illusion. It's like you get to rip the curtain open for us on the Great and Powerful Oz. hehe!

"Familiarity breeds contempt." that quote comes to mind as all of us have our issues with different judges. Just watching auditions this year burned me out on the show. I let myself forget IT'S TV and they need RATINGS. Boooo.

Nigel's already irritating me with some of his banal critques. Did anyone understand his observation that the young blonde was "dancing like a child"? He must have gotten the idea from Adam praising the couple for performing the choreo with ease, as if they were just two kids enjoying dance. Very strange.

I was surprised by Tyce's new "meaner" persona. He got a whole musical montage! Sure, you can be irritated by people wasting your time but his delivery is extra brutal. I'm not sure he realizes his expressions look over the top on camera where as in real life there aren't close-ups. I guess it draws viewers.

Even Adam Shankman's recent crying performance last week during the finalists solos was over the top. He comes off very fake sometimes. OMG, I was also floored when he dissed the ballroom couple on the finale show. It must be easy when you don't put yourself out there for the world and other judges!

Mia threw a pen at a dancer. She was happy about the dancer's performance. Who throws stuff?

Laurie Ann may be sweet in real life but I get irritated by her unprofessionalism on the show. She expects the best from the best dancers like anyone would-I get it. It's such a tiresome cliche to hear the screaming and yelling. The other choreographers came off as much more real-"bring it, let's go" is what you'd expect to hear. I realize there are dancers that stay in companies with maniacs making their lives miserable but the dancers don't last there for good reason. No professional dancer wants to put up with that crap no matter how glorious the job. Why put an example of this on TV? Oh yeah...ratings.

Reality doesn't work on Reality TV. If they were all like Debbie, what would we talk about? How constructive and professional everyone is? The reality is you rarely get feedback from an audition. That doesn't make a good TV show.

I guess I hope that reality shows would reflect reality, but they do not. I have never been to an audition where we were ridiculed. Once in a blue moon they might give advice, but mostly it was, "Thank you for coming," which meant that you were not chosen to move on. If you were chosen it was, "Thank you, we would like you to stay."

I know much of the world enjoys seeing people's feelings hurt on tv, and arguments, fights (gee, are we copying Hockey?).

I watch the show later, after I've TiVoed it, so that I can skip over the talking. I don't need Nigel to tell me how they did.
At the end of the day, as numerous as the things that are wrong with it are, it still brings kids in my door. This year I have, for the first time, a beginner teen ballet class. Why? We got a bunch of calls from kids who wanted to study contemporary dance because they saw it on the show, yet they had no training. So we put a class on the schedule called "beginner contemporary" and what it really is, is a ballet class set to non-classical music. They do some floor barre, some stretching- but its really basic ballet technique....and for this I thank SYTYCD.
Take it for what it is, and try not to believe everything you see on TV.

I DVR mine, too, because I am teaching, so I have gotten to the point of just passing over all of the bull in the show. Let me see them dance, enjoy it and move on. Thank goodness for DVR and Tivo!! LOL

So true with the DVR.
At least for those of us who know how the dance world works we can skip all the BS and just see some dancing, damn it.
My hub likes to listen to the comments when he likes a piece. Listening to the judges confirm his gut reaction makes him feel like he knows what he's talking about.
Just what I need.

The thing I can't stand, and can definitely live without, is how big a deal they make out of Mia. For Vegas week, they acted like working with her was a total LIFE CHANGING event. Pa-lease....

I respect her choreography, and really enjoy most of it, while hating some other, but Good Lord, she's not the second coming of Jesus. They act like she has tapped into some dance movement universe that nobody else can find!

FYI Mia, not everything has to be gut-wrenching and painful. Wouldn't hurt to have a happy dance every once in a while!!!

Very true and very well put. That is why some of these people are getting super big heads!

I have to tell you that there are dance teachers and dance school owners out there whose work is phenomenal on choreography, making hers look not so great in comparison.

They do not teach workshops, etc., they just do it for their kids and do not have big heads, either. The bigger you get, the easier it is to burst your bubble or fall of of your pedestal, so they should be careful not to climb too high. LOL

I think I made a similar comment this summer. Artists tend to create from their subconscious. You can see the level of inner turmoil based on one miserable tale after another. You can see she has relationship problems, familial problems, self image problems, and the list goes on.

It may be hard for her to create "happy" uplifting dances if she suffers from sort of depression or anxiety disorder coupled with a low sense of self.

I did also make the comment that genius and madness ride a thin line. And madness is generally not all that perky. A tormented artist is just that...tormented.

What has happened though, is the rise to fame causes the unsettled soul to act in the most unpleasant ways and obviously gives them the platform to showcase all of the ugliness, including their personal behavior.

She is certainly fighting demons. I feel for her. But I also don't excuse her. She is ultimately responsible for her own behavior.

I agree I have never met her in real life. But I am planning on going to The Pulse, and I will be scared ____less if she is teacing a class. I think she should tone it down, she could scare dancers or young kids out of wanting to dance because she is cussing and screaming at everyone!

Reading this thread reminds me that I am not normal or sane.

I listen to Mia and I feel that 'hey, I'm not the only one out there who has thoughts and feelings about dance and dancers like that'.

Wow I am so shocked at this post! I thought I was the only one who felt this way about Mia.

I have had two teachers at my school who have both worked for Mia professionally. These people are not soft people and are WONDERFUL dancers. Like the post a few above. they completely lost their love of dance and had to quit working with her. Which means they can never work for her again. One teacher said, "It was hell for 8 months, but will be heaven on my resume". They both thought about quitting dance altogether!

I think you can be a great choreographer, have the goods AND be a great person too! You don't always have to be a hard ass over everything.

Karla from last season also works at my school and she said that Mia would yell at the dancers after they performed on tv. Like its over, what are you trying to do?

We have to remember that it is a show and what we see is different from what is actually going on. The pairings are BS, They are not random. When they pick the dances out of a hat, thats BS too. There is only one card in there! That is what the editing is for. It was no surprise that Kayla brought Brian out of retirement from the show and "out of the hat" got to work with him. Also not random was Melissa getting ballet. We all knew that was no fluke!

I think this is a great time to let some new blood in. Let Sonya take over more dances! and travis too! Also, maybe they can hire some more great talent, hire TOKYO!!! HIs choreography is so original ad he is always an inspiration

Anyone else sad to see that Paula won't be on??? I was so bummed!

Danza5678 Paula is going to be in "Burlesque", a film with Cher and Christina Aguilera. Want to know what else I think is BS? I think she told them way before that she wasn't going to be available for the show and they made her announce it on camera anyway.

I went to The Pulse last year (and yes, I'm going back this year) and I absolutely LOVED Laurieann's class. One of my favs. I really liked the way she taught, and how much energy and "pumpy" and excited she was. She def was way different on TV, but those are with dancers trying to be professionals. She really was great with our kids, I'm not really worried.

I also agree with avandy. When we went to the pulse Laurieann was great with the kids! She is a little out there with her explanations but she gets the kids motivated and they all enjoyed her class.

I also earned a lot of respect for her at the showcase when the studios got to perform. One school did a very morbid dance. The kids were maybe early teens. The girls were bleeding like lady gaga and at the end died. I was VERY disturbed by the dance, and she made wonderful comments to the crowd about how we have to be mindful about what we give our young kids. That they are innocent and we need to preserve that. I was highly impressed with her saying something and have liked her ever since.

That disturbs me, too. Life will have enough conflict, so why make them have to suffer, even if for a dance, at such a young age?
