So we put a class on the schedule called "beginner contemporary" and what it really is, is a ballet class set to non-classical music. They do some floor barre, some stretching- but its really basic ballet technique.....
What a truly wonderful idea! |

GOOOD! Now we can see new choreographers. Not that I do not like her, but it's always good to see new choreographers! |

As with the majority, I really don't think it's necessary to be mean to tell someone they stink, or need to improve. Now, after sitting for many hours watching pseudo-talent perform, I would also be cranky, but mean, who knows. I also love how Adam critiques in a positive way. They all basically do the same thing, yay or nay, it's just how the message is delivered that makes the message helpful. I will miss some of Mia's choreographies, but she is way to out there for me. I like her stories, I have a tendency to choreograph that way, but without having her storyline it's hard to understand the dance. I am attending a Pulse convention, see what comes out of it!
Maybe I'll get to see if she is that mean at conventions... |

When you attack a person with negative criticism, they shut you down and will not take the advice, for the most part. When you make it positive, they usually will listen. Not all will listen, as some think that they do not need it, so all you can do is give them assistance and hope that they take your advice.
I wonder if negative criticizers feel that people will have the "I will show you that you are wrong" attitude but not really. Most people are hurt and I have seen it happen that it has discouraged someone enough to give up.
Life has too much crap in it. Even if her life is not a happy one, why add to other people's pain? I do not get it. |

I think it's particularly sad that a couple of the posters here know people who have danced with her professionally and all of them almost lost their love for dance all together and wanted to quit.
That's hardly someone being an inspiration to the dance world.
I'm not sure her motivation is "to motivate". It seems like she's miserable, so she'd like to see everyone around her just as tormented.
I've known these types. They are so desperately unhappy with themselves and their lives that they do whatever they can to bring you into their tortured world and keep you there.
I wouldn't speak so adamantly about depressives if I hadn't had a brush with this type in my life in a deeply personal way. Not a pleasant moment.
It's very easy for me to identify the behaviors that are exactly the same as the person I knew.
Chaos making is part of what they do to keep everyone around them as off balance as they personally feel.
I believe that she said in one of the montages last year promoting their new non-profit "If it weren't for dance...I probably wouldn't be here." That was a strong reference to dance saving her from perhaps a deep depression/darkness and who knows what else.
Maybe it's chemical, maybe it's biological, maybe she was abused as a child. Who knows.
I just know that she is toxic and she's probably too far gone to get help. |
