Ask a Teacher Taps for Converse Sneakers??? en>fr fr>en By toni873 Comments: 148, member since Tue Aug 12, 2008On Mon Oct 19, 2009 01:58 PM
Hello -
So I am having trouble figuring out which kinds of taps to purchase for Converse sneakers. I thought this would be an easy task of simply calling the dancewear companies and finding out. No such luck. None of them know. I have had a pair of these made a LONG time ago when I was dancing, but my old dance teacher did everything (ordered taps, had them put on, etc.) and it was so LONG ago, I cant seem to remember anything about them, except the fact that I had them. I know I have seen them done before, so if anybody has any insight on this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know.
Thanks! 3 Replies to Taps for Converse Sneakers??? |

We have done this with all types of shoes, we just always went to the dancewear store and matched up the taps. We always used capezio, I think I remember the sizes going opposite, meaning #1 was the biggest. We also found that the best way to attach them was to use epoxy and a C clamp, one of the fathers did them, though I think you might be able to take them to a cobbler if you have one around you. Hope this helps! |

Awesome. Thank you so much. I knew that I had to glue them, even though a local dancewear store told me that a shoemaker would cement them on.
I tried calling numerous shoemakers and one man wanted me to put on leather soles and then screw on the taps. When I asked him how much it would cost, he told me $60 for the soles and $24 for the tap installation. I was like Oh no way!!! On a pair of $40 sneakers??? haha My husband is a carpenter so I will send him to Home Depot to get apoxy and a c-clamp and I will buy a pair and have him try it on mine so we dont ruin the girls.
Thanks so much. It is greatly appreciated! =) |

$84 is a mid range price for most shoe makers.
Your best best is to contact Matt at Dancing Fair. He has good prices and does top notch work (can attach taps to pretty much anything). He is the guy that many professional tap dancers go to for shoe work.
