Asking SO to be considered for teaching comp class en>fr fr>en

My SO just decided to start a new mini's level for competition. Now we already have a juniors and a senors age class and there are two teachers that have been teaching those competition classes. For the last couple years I have been the main teacher for the younger kids. SO has said that I am the best teacher for the young kids cause unlike the other teachers (including the two that teach the competition classes) that I have the patience and able to understand what they can and can not do.

My question is now what and how do I go about talking to my SO about my interest in teaching the new mini level competition. I asked who was teaching the new mini class and she said the two competition teachers probley will just split it. I feel like I am the best person for this class as I have taught this age for years and know the students that would be in it and have taught them what they know now.

What is the best way to go about promoting myself to my SO and telling her that I should be given a chance? And that I am the best for the spot?

I think exactly what you told us is the best thing to tell your SO. "I'm good with kids this age. I've been teaching this age for X years. I've always wanted to teach a comp class. Can I have a shot at it and if it doesn't work out, you can let one of the other teachers have it?" She just may not have realized you were interested since you don't teach the other comp kids. Good luck!

Yup, just ask and state your case as you have with us. You will never know until you ask.

I totally agree--just let her know you're interested! I mean, what SO doesn't want a motivated instructor who wants to do more & become more? She's fortunate to have you!

I agree, just state it like you told us. You will never know the answer until you ask the question! Good luck.

My best advice is to be professional, and decide ahead of time what you will do if she says no. You have to be prepared-you don't want to break into tears and be so disappointed you say something you later regret (like I quit!) Present your case with facts to back it-I have been teaching this age group for X number of years, and you said yourself that I am great with them. I feel ready to tackle a competition level class if you'll give me the chance.
