Teachers - Job Talk How do you do it, Privates? en>fr fr>en By dwd34mv Comments: 133, member since Mon Aug 11, 2008On Thu Nov 05, 2009 09:39 AM
I am wondering how other studios pay their teachers for solos, duets, trios? I feel like I put extra time into choreographing, and I only get paid my hourly rate, when I meet with the kid.
We don't have a choreography fee or anything like that.
Let me know how you are paid and how you charge people. Thanks. 5 Replies to How do you do it, Privates? |

I know every studio is different but this is how we do it at my studio.
Each soloist pays a choreography fee of $300.
The duets and trios pay a choreogrpahy fee of $300 but it is divided by the number of people in the dance.
They then have to pay for their time of instruction each week which is $30 for half an hour or $60 for a full hour.
Hope this helps |

I just get my hourly rate, I don't mind this as I find it's way easier to choreograph a solo or a duet, the child is going to be more focused as they really want to be there so I get through so much more than I do in an ordinary class.
The students are just charged for their lessons by the hour too, I'm not sure how much though. |

I just get my hourly fee also, but I don't get paid for choreography or prep time for ANY classes, not just solos etc... |

In the past when I taught at a studio other than my own, I just charged an hourly rate per person. Teachers were paid directly by the students for privates, and most of us charged anywhere from $25-50 an hour for a private. By the time it was all choreographed and cleaned it ended up being about the same amount had I charged a flat rate for choreography and then an hourly rate for teaching it. IT made it easier for the parents since our town is lower-middle class, it's like paying for choreography in installments.
Now that I have my own studio, I let the teachers handle it very similarly. It's their time so it's mostly their money. Sometimes If they work during off hours they'll throw me a portion of it to cover operating costs, but even that is minimal. |

Each soloist pays a $200 choreography fee and it is $17 per half hour time slot ($15 goes to the teacher and $2 goes to the studio). Duet/Trios pay a $300 choreography fee, but it is split between the participants. Duet time slots are $10 per child per half hour, and trio time slots are $6 per child per half hour. The teacher still gets $15 and the studio gets the remaining. |
