I use "Ms." with my first name. I am married, but when I started teaching I was not. I found it easier and less complicated to just stay with my first name. I do know teachers that have choosen to change from using their first names to using last names when they get married. It is your own personal choice. I know of a teacher who has been married and divorced twice, in the span of 20 years of owning her own studio. She choose to stay with her first name and "Miss". It would have been a little confusing to students and parents in her studio if she had changed her name maybe 4 or 5 times. |

Same, students call me Miss Michelle - and I am married.
At the end of each class we always say thank you Miss Michelle and I say thank you girls and boys...this way it helps them to remember my name. |

I also go by Miss (first name)....although when I got married some students were confused and called me Mrs (first name) but it didn't really stick. Most of the seniors now just call me by my first name.
When I was a student we called our teachers by their last name (Miss Stuart). I think I didn't do this because before I got married I had a very long and difficult last name to pronounce so just went by my first name! |

My Teachers Call me Miss Courtney they are taught that it is respect to say Miss infront. My Director of a company i'm in though goes by her Last name. It really is optional and whatever you feel is best for you. I think that putting Miss infront of the name is pure respect. |

all the kids refer to the teachers as Miss (First name). As for our male teachers... I let the instructor decide if her wants to be Mr.____ , first name, or b-boy name etc... |

When I was an assistant, the teacher ("Miss Sarah") I was assisting got married. One day her husband came in and one little girl asked if that was "Mr. Sarah".
So cute |

In the studio I am Miss Shannon to the babies (except the twins who just came from soccer and refuse to call me that so I am coach Shannon to them haha) and I let the older ones (and parents) pick what to call me.
At school I am Ms. Last name. Some of my kids at school I have taught at the studio so that took awhile to get them away from Miss Shannon. |

Always Ms Kirstin. No matter the age- most of the parents even call me Ms Kirstin. It's a sign of respect. Anything I do with the studio I'm known as Ms Kirstin- even when I have contact other businesses.
I'm not married yet but will be next year and had one student ask me what they will call me after I'm married and I'll still be Ms Kirstin although my last name will change it won't affect too much with the studio. |

I agree about feeling that it is a sign of respect. I actually rent space from the city. Anytime i see a city employee they refer to me as Miss Valerie, I have 19 year olds guys saying, "How's it going Miss Valerie?" I just love it it feels respectful to me. When a parent address an email to me as Miss Valerie i am automatically in a good mood no matter what they have to say. When they just say Valerie they better watch it |

I'm married and they call me Miss DeLyn. Even usually the older ones still say *Miss*. Every once in awhile one or two of them will say, "Miss Der-lyn" because I had a 4 year old call me that all year once. It came out sounding more like "Mr. Lyn". What is funny is that I don't even blink, and just respond to the question when they do that! lol.
Oh, and I almost always call my students Miss FirstName as well. I do that to a LOT of people though, not just students, but friends and acquaintances as well. |

My preschool kids just call me "Teacher Bree"
My older kids call me either just Bree or Teacher Bree. I don't have a problem with either. I introduce myself as Bree. |

I think I am echoing most of the other posts in saying that my older students call me by my first name and my little ones call me miss and my name. It is kind of funny because I taught at a studio in Southern California (I am now living in Northern CA)for 10 years. When I go back down to visit the children who called me miss still do even though they are into their early teens. I think it is cute. |
