About Black River Dance
Linda aka "La Naija" is a professional artist and also co-founder of the all-female urban dance crew MAWU. She has developed a unique style that blends house as well as African and modern dance, and is known for her fluidity, strength and musicality. La Naija has performed and studied with notable dancers and choreographers such as Camille A. Brown, Courtney Ffrench, Marjory Smarth, Mike "U4RIA" Clarke, Sekou Heru, Tony McGregor, Caleaf Sellers, James "Cricket" Colter and Byron Cox, and has also worked with prolific DJs and artists such as Grammy award-winning producer Little Louie Vega, Mr. V, Alix Alvarez, Barbara Tucker and Wunmi. She both choreographed and appeared in Mr. V’s 2006 hit single “Da Bump” directed by Lenny Bass, and was a featured dancer in the music videos for Wunmi’s “Keep It Rockin” and DJN Project's 2009 hit "Take You Away". Recent accomplishments include: House Judge @ Battle for a Cause 2008 (Houston, TX) Winner (House) @ Brian “Footwork” Green’s House Dance Conference 2007 (New York, NY) Winner (House) @ Buddha Stretch’s Step Ya Game Up 2007 (New York, NY) Winner @ Winter Music Conference Freestyle Dance-off 2007 & 2008 (Miami, FL)

Whether you are an old-school house head, a club kid, a classically trained dancer or a complete novice, you will get something out of this class. This class explores the beauty of house -- the music, the dance and the culture. Students will work on technicality, musicality, personality and individuality through a combination of basic movement drills, choreography, partner exchanges and group cyphers.
