 Teachers - General Teaching a zero-credit college course!!!! Help! en>fr fr>en By twnkltoez85 Comments: 121, member since Sat Aug 18, 2007On Wed Nov 11, 2009 04:34 PM
Okay ladies I need your help!
I have recently stopped teaching at our local studio... but still want to dance/teach. I looked into teaching dancejam classes at a gym.. but found out that the gym was going under so decided not to go that route. Well, I've been approached over that past couple of years to teach dance at our local Junior College.. but later found out that you have to have a Masters in PE or dance to teach at a college level...even (new rule) as a zero-credit class. Well, after talking with the lady she found out that I told her I have my BA in business AND I have 8 years experience teaching dance. She said that there is a clause that that many years experience can make me eligible to teach the non-credit course..... Here's the part I need your help. On the application I can't call the course a "dance" course. Because dance cannot be taught at a non-credit level (all these stingy new rules!!)and it would have be labeled as an aerobics class. I'm okay with that because it was going to be a high energy-dance-aerobics class anyways. So... on the application I basically cannot mention "dance"... so how should I word my experience and my goals and outline for the class? I don't want to lie and I don't want to twist any truths. I worked 8 years for a recreational dance school..no comps. 14 classes a week...all ages. I also taught a summer hiphop class at a rec center, and I volunteered for the past 5 years doing pageant choreography (opening numbers) for a scholarship pageant. Any ideas? This is going to be a VERY popular class in our small town because there is nothing out there for adults. I already have a list of people waiting for a scheduled time and I really want to do it. An artistique aerobics class?
Aerobics based on dance technique?
And you can still say you have experience as a dance teacher. And your goals are to give 'quality aerobics', 'dance based classes'? |

How about the word "movement" -- is that allowed? Or the words "good, safe, creative, movement technique"? How about "moving to music" or "improve your musicality"? |
