So for my Musical Theatre dance we are doing a song with a solo in it and I really really want it! I don't think I am going to get it at though. I am a senior and I have been in the class the longest and I know I can do it. I just don't know what to do. I want to ask my teacher but I don't know if I should. I'm afraid she will get mad at me or think I have an attitude that I'm better than everyone else because I don't feel that way at all. I just want the chance to really shine. What do I do about it? I know if I don't do anything nothing will be done but will asking make things worse. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

talk to your teacher - explain that you don't want to be arrogant but you really feel you would shine in this part. It never hurts to ask - I know a lot of dancers that got parts simply because they told their directors that they thought they could do it :) good luck!

I agree. When I go to pick special parts I look at who has been the most committed. Even this year I picked a teenager for a special part based on her past reliability and so far she has missed almost half of the practices! Maybe you can tell your teacher that you want the part will work hard and won't miss any rehearsals. That promise may be all she needs to hear!

Then again if you don't get the part, don't be too hard on yourself or your teacher. Maybe she has a specific look in mind for the dancer or needs the dancer to do a certain trick or lift in the dance and you are not the best choice for that.

Good luck ;)

All you have to say is this :"I would love to be considered for a solo this year, I feel as though I am up for the challenge and committment that it requires"

Not arrogant, just confident and to the point! The worst she will say is "no" and then you will carry on and do the number anyway.
Good luck! :)

If a student indicates to me that they are interested in something I am always likely to consider them a little bit more than I might have before. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want! To avoid coming across arrogant, you might want to also ask what you can work on to help increase your chances for this opportunity. Showing that you are willing to put the work in can only help!
