 Ask a Teacher Lyrical help please:) en>fr fr>en By PomPom707 Comments: 103, member since Sat Mar 08, 2008On Fri Nov 13, 2009 08:43 PM
Hi there,
Well, I am choreographing a dance(basically for fun) and I am a student. It is to "This Time" by John Legend. I'm about 2 minutes in, and I am stuck on ideas for the rest of the choreo! I don't want it to be to much tricks and not enough dance so I am pretty much starting to over think it.
Can anybody help me think of some new and different steps to add?
-I've already used:
-Double Pirouette( in posse) twice in the dance
-double Coupe and Double Pencil Turns Twice in the Dance
-illusion once
straddle leap once
barrel/calypso once
Tuck once
Jete(split leap) twice.
Help!!!

Especially with lyrical some of the most beautiful moments are those between tricks. My advice would be to really pay attention to your transitions and try to figure out how you can make them interesting with changing dynamics and levels.
When I get stuck choreographing, I try to take something simple that I know (like a battement) and figure out how I change it and make it a little different. Also fun is playing with interesting floor work. Sounds like you've got lots of leaps and turns - maybe you could see what happens when you bring one of them into the floor.
Mostly, don't be afraid to play around and experiment. Just turn on the music and improv to it. See what happens and if you can use any of it. |
