Flora then Lilt, then Hornpipe and Jig, then all the rest. I'm curious which Jig movements you were taught (or helped teach) young dancers?

The first one I learned was the Dusty Miller but it's not there to vote for. Then probably Lilt and Flora.

Can't remember what movements for jig I was taught, but when I help teach we do:
-Intro (just simple tapping the foot and shaking fist)
-first step (simple skipping in a circle with arms up beats 5-8)
-second step (ONLY ARMS...aka teaching them single single double..)
-then a random step (tap behind each foot, then in front each foot, run run, kick, yell *wooh!* with arms up)

The kids love showing us their "angry faces"!

oh and for the breaks we clap our hands and jump on the spot for first step, then in a circle for second step.

I learned the Lilt first, then the Flora and after that it's a bit of a blur. I think I learned part of the Village Maid, then the Johnny and the Laddie.

My daughter learned in this order: lilt, flora, hornpipe, jig, laddie, barracks, blue bonnets and village maid, earl and scotch measure.

She didn't get to learn the Dusty Miller...or the Tribute. I guess because they are competition dances.

I learned the lilt first. My favorite was always the laddie though. I learned that second, because I bugged my teacher enough to teach it to me.

I first learned the Lilt and then half convinced myself that all national dances were in 6. I don't know if I am happy that they aren't in 6 (I really like the rhythm in the Lilt) Then came the Flora, which I actually enjoy.
