I have no idea where this should be posted on DDN to share. I thought it was food for thought. For the record, I do not vote the party line when I vote. I am not a democrat or a republican.

I personally think that Obama is a smart man, just not qualified to be President.

Here's the list:

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had created the position 32 or more Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had spent more than all the Presidents combined since George Washington, would you have approved?

The above list of items have been attributed to Obama. I HOPE there's a similar list of good things that he's done as President.

If not, I HOPE he will have a good list of things for the remainder of his term as President.

Coming from the view point of an extremely left-wing independent who would probably be a Green or maybe a Socialist if she believed in political parties (wow, that was rambly), who isn't that fond of Obama and generally tries to be unbiased (and sometime fails)...

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?
Doubt it. I'm not into "Bushisms" or anything like that-I try to stick to policies.

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?
Wouldn't have noticed, wouldn't have cared.

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?
Not sure, not going to comment.

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?
Didn't approve of Obama there, wouldn't have approved of Bush.

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
What the heck are you talking about?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?
Once again, more important issues than this.

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?
More than approved, I would have thought it was a step forward for the man. It is cultural respect.

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
Yeah.

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?
Didn't approve for either commander in chief.

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?
Probably for both prezes.

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?
I don't know what you're talking about, but probably not.

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?
Heck yeah, for any prez. Also, Al Gore.

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?
Yeah. I don't think I was that outraged about Obama doing it. Hey, I'm human, sometimes I'm biased.

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?
No claims of racism, it is the freaking Midwest, not New Orleans. Simple demographics, people.
Other than that, yeah, and god, I'm ashamed that I didn't hear about that before. Dissapointed in Obama on that one.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
Depends on circumstances. What Obama did was okay and neccesary.

If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
Once again, all circumstansial. What's all this money we're spending going to?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
See above

If George W. Bush had spent more than all the Presidents combined since George Washington, would you have approved?
I'd hear of almost everything above this except a few minor speech slip-up things I don't care about, but for something as big as this, really:
Image hotlink - 'http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/wikipedian_protester.png'
Also, once again, what it is for is v.v.v.v. important. You can't put a price on healthcare, for example.

Well, there you go. Like I said, I really could care less about little slip ups like the Austrian thing from any president, ever (I'm pretty sure all presidents have had their moments, but some moments become more prominent than others), I'm more lefty than a Democrat, and I don't think there is a single politician I like EVERYTHING about, so maybe I'm not exactly the responder you were looking for. I really think it could go in reverse for those who extremely dislike Obama, too: Would you approve if he lied us into a war? Would you approve if he reinstated a rule that has been linked to thousands of maternal deaths worldwide? Etc, etc.

I supported Bush and I support Obama. I don't agree with every single thing Bush did, and I think Obama has made a few minor mistakes as well, but I think being a president must be an extremely difficult and stressful job and they need our support even when they make mistakes. After all, I think every president this country has had is really trying to improve the country. I think Americans sometimes take our freedom of speech for granted and say some things about our leaders that really aren't fair.

I'm not attacking smileywoman, because I agree that the presidents have done some not-so-smart things, I just think that I can still respect and trust leaders who aren't perfect.

Eh, nobody's ever happy with anything. We've shot ourselves in the foot by having a two-party system. Is Obama perfect? Obviously not, and I've felt let down by a lot of his actions and decisions. However, given the way our country works, I have to ask myself "what would things be like is McCain and Palin were in office?" and that makes me stand behind my vote, because despite his many flaws, I much prefer Obama to McCain, and I'd be much unhappier with McCain in office. Like Katy, I'm not a Democrat, I'm just far left. Political Compass places me as a Left Libertarian.

Yeah, University of Chicago really employs idiots as graduate-level professors. And Bush didn't graduate from college with a C average or anything.

This makes me want to vomit. Seriously. Jesus Christ.

I am not exactly ‘for’ Obama, however I can't let blatant lies slide like this. An earlier version of this made the rounds in September.
I no longer believe anything I get in a forward email and research it all for myself.
Do tell smileywoman, if Obama is not qualified to be President, who is?

-If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?
Herbert Hoover used a teleprompter. So has every other US president since then. GWB used one too but was uncomfortable with it, so he preferred index cards. Obama uses a teleprompter more often than his predecessors because he's good at it. Without it, we frequently hear him speaking extemporaneously with great skill and thoughtfulness.

-If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?
George Bush took a total of 237 Vacations (1020 DAYS) during his presidency. This is an average of 2.5 vacations per month every month he was in office. Are we seriously talking about Barack’s ONE NIGHT IN NEW YORK?

George W. Bush had made 149 trips to and spent 487 days at Camp David, with another 77 getaways to (and 490 days at) Crawford. Toss in 11 visits and 43 days at his folks' compound in Kennebunkport, Maine and President Bush spent 1020 days - 35% of his presidency - getting away from the White House. Breaking the record for vacation days.

I think that may have cost us more than $10,000…

- If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan’s holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?
Someone please tell me who was president when this chart finally stopped plummeting and starting going up? Let's see what major change did we have in January 2009?

- If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
George Bush gave Gordon Brown a Bomber Jacket which Gordon Brown promptly gave to charity, I imagine that was a better gift?

-If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?
It would...if the iPod had any Obama Speeches on it. It did however have show tunes that she has been well known to like and pictures of a visit she had to the U.S. Nothing about Obama was on the IPOD... so this is just a flat out lie.
www.nydailynews.com . . .

-If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?
If Obama had kissed and held hands with the King of Saudi would you approve? Let us not forget….
www.hermes-press.com . . .
www.peteykins.com . . .

-If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the nonexistent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
This did actually happen and is reminiscent of Bush thanking Australian premier John Howard for allowing him to visit their 'Austrian' troops...

www.dailymail.co.uk . . .

-If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?
If the appointment of Tim Geitner is considered "Filling his cabinet and circle of advisors" then this is correct. There is not one other cabinet or advisor that has had any discrepancies in taxes.

-If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

Yes that would have been embarrassing. However, this is a lie. It was a joke because they were celebrating it a day early. Quote: "Bienvenidos. Welcome to Cinco de Cuatro -- (laughter) -- Cinco de Mayo at the White House. We are a day early, but we always like to get a head start here at the Obama White House." was the exact quote.

-If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

This is just incorrect. It is a handwritten letter that had the word "advice" in it and someone mused that his "c" looked like an "s".....

-If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

In 2004 Bush flew to Wells, Maine to celebrate earth day. In 2005 Bush flew to Tennessee to celebrate earth day. I am sure there are more…

-If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

1,836 people killed and over 275,000 homes were lost in Katrina. The Midwest flood killed 24 people and approx. 10,000 homes were lost. What is the comparison and what does it have to do with Barack, who approved additional funding for the Midwest flood relief?

- If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
The government required AIG, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac in September 2008 to replace their CEOs as a condition of receiving government funds during the Bush administration.

-If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

The national debt in Jan. 2001 was 5.7 Trillion.

The National debt in Jan 2009 was 10.7 trillion.

Was this a trick question? What if Bush nearly doubled the debt?

-If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

Can I get the place that proposal came from? Funny enough I cannot find a quote from Obama proposing to double the debt again 10 times within the next few years.

Even if the picture is photoshopped (now looking at it makes me laugh at how bad it is) George W Bush DID indeed kiss and hold hands with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, as is tradition.

I didn't vote for the current person. Everyone has had good and bad parts to their term(s). Yes the job is incredibly hard trying to please all parties in the sandbox and I wouldn't want any part of it.
Needless to say when the you know what hits the fan I'm prepared to survive.

Not feelin' attacked at all. I agree to some small degree about 'respect and trust leaders'.

My primary issue is that IF the President of the US was hired using a job description (i.e. incumbents must match qualifications needed) Obama's actions would prove he is not qualified enough for the TOUGHEST job in America. If this were a job-job, he'd be fired.

Do tell smileywoman, if Obama is not qualified to be President, who is?

Good question. Personally, from a purely qualified perspective I would have had our first female President (Hillary Clinton) although it would be like having Bill Clinton in the office again. *shudders*

I don't think ANY of the candidates were particularly good.

Sorry Maria, but this info you've posted is spammy e-mail rhetoric drivel. The way the questions set the reader up is highly annoying. I'm independent too, btw.

Maybe it drips with drivel, but it does make one take pause and think generally about the position of President and the actions they take. I thought the list would be a opportunity for discussion.

Inherently, any incoming President has to deal with the issues/mistakes/actions of the previous President. I still think that the best qualified person (from an experience perspective) should be chosen for the toughest job in America.

From a purely "best qualified" for the job (as if it were a regular match skills to job description scenario) Obama isn't the man.

^ By that line of thinking, many of our former presidents would have been fired, as well. Being president of the US has a lot of on-the-job-training. I'm hopeful Obama gets better. He has potential. Unfortunately, he also has much opposition, as many presidents did.

Agreed. Candidate pool was not great this last time. I would have picked Rudy Gulliani, just for his ability to deal with a crisis, but negative publicity ran him off.

Or, you know, whine because it depends on the circumstances.

To me the point of this post is simply that Obama is not held to the same standard as Bush. When Obama messes up something no mater how significant or insignificant it is brushed aside but if Bush mis pronounces one word it is all over the media and the internet. This list to me just makes the point that Obama is not as wonderful as so many people have made and continue to make him out to be. He has flaws just like GWB but Bush was tormented over his every flaw and Obama hasn't been.

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?
I would have laughed at how inept he was. Probably even say that he was controlled by smarter people.

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?
No I wouldn't have approved because of his other reckless money dealings. If it was a once off thing, maybe?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?
Not sure

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
Not sure, what you're talking abut, not sure If I would really care.

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?
Meh, don't care.

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?
Yes, it is a sign of cultural respect.

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
Yeah, it would have been one of the less dumb statements of his.

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?
I think the people George Bush had in his cabinet were terrible and couldn't be worse.

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?
Not actually what happened, it was delibrate. If it did actually happen, would still have been betetr than not trying to speak the Spanish. I don't recall George Bush having any flair for lanuage, English or foreign.

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?
Who doesn't make a handwriting error? Or it could have someone misreading his handwriting script.

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?
Absoulutely. But I believe george Bush would have burned more galleons of fuel for useless show pony tactics.

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?
I'm not sure if I would be that affected by it really.

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?
Well he was incompetent. They didn't send enough support to New Orleans at all. Peoples lives were destroyed by that and got no assistance. Katrina was more serious. Obama sent aid to the midwest.

If George W. Bush had created the position 32 or more Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved.
Not enough info to talk on that one.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
I would have approved.

If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
America needs money spent on it. All this money is going to a good cause.

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
It depends on where America and the world is at.

If George W. Bush had spent more than all the Presidents combined since George Washington, would you have approved?
It depends on the cause needs the money. Like healthcare is very important.

I still regard Obama as a much better president than George Bush. For a number of reasons.

Previous posters have really great in depth explanations of everything, but I just wanted to restate that any president is accountable for almost every second he's awake each day. Everyone is human. We're all bound to make mistakes some percentage of the time, and when everything you say or do is on the record there is going to be a notable number of them.

I've seen this before and it's just silly. How much time do people have on their hands to write up this junk? I swear. I wish my life were so charmed and leisurely that I could do something like that.

I hate politics in all forms. I think the bulk of it is stupid and useless. I don't really much care about any of the above issues because it's not my problem. Maybe that's small minded of me. Obama bowing to the Japanese emperor or Bush using a telepromter has NOTHING TO DO with my life. Therefore, I care not.

I liked Obama at first, I still think he's okay, but really, he's not the best president. I'm still not that sure what he did to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize...

One mistake he made that I'll never forget is when he was talking about the professer that was arrested for breaking into his own house and Obama said something along the lines of it being a stupid move on the police officers behalf. I mean, really?! You couldn't have said something more professional.

But I agree with PinUpGirl, I really don't care about any of this junk. I wouldn't have the guts to be in charge of the major decessions going on in the country.

(Wow. My opinions really aren't very clear. What I was trying to say was that every president has made mistakes. Every person has too. I just don't feel that Obama is that amazing.)

I sometimes feel that the president is like Bush on crack, but every person has their flaws. That being said, I feel that some of the things on this list aren't very accurate. I think I would need more of a background story to comment on these things.
