Is there a difference between girls and guys at a beginning level of ballet?

I'm not too sure about lower levels but i started at intermediate foundation (RAD) some exercises have male and female versions for example grande battments have a slower introduction music for men, changements and supersous are also a different exercise and a few others I can't think of right now. For the most part I can't see it making a huge difference if you start off learning the girls especially if your the only boy in the class as they may not think to use the boys music.

I'm the only male in my class unless someone comes in for a makeup class. Everything is the same with some small differences in hand movement on certain movements.

No, really no difference at the beginning levels.

Later on, music is often played slower for men because men jump higher --- and the length of time it takes to do a jump depends entirely on how you jump.

My teacher always has the men do different excersices; he will have the men to tour's instead of pique turns and the jumps will be different. He always says that men need to be "heavier"/

In the beginning levels of ballet, they are very similar. In the advance ballet classes...yes it is very different!
