First of all you have to provide a lot more info. What kind of school? Ballroom, Ballet, hip-hop, jazz? Where do you want to open it? How much experience do you have in the field? Do you know anyone who can go in with you to help you--are you primarily a dancer who wants to teach, a teacher who wants to branch out on her own, or just someone who "likes dance " and knows how to run a small business and needs teachers to do the teaching. Do you have any business end knowledge? Do you have any contacts or relations with franchise dance schools (such as Fred Astaire or Arthur Murray) that might help guide you. Could there possibly be a failing dance school in your area that might be for sale? Can you pull together enough cash for renovations necessary for a new space. (Such as new floors, barres, mirrors, etc. ) All of this info and more must be provided to even begin a discussion on opening a dance school. I have one school, am opening another this year, hope to have 2 more within 5 years and work closely with someone who will soon have his fifth. This can be a very rewarding life IF you are careful and look at all sides of the business--not just the fun parts.

Try asking here: www.dance.net . . .

The rest of the studio owners' board is private, but Ask a Studio Owner is open to everyone. Not only does that board get more traffic (which results in more responses for you), but you'll be able to get advice from experienced owners.
