Made sticky by TheMidlakeMuse (78507) on 2010-05-11 11:09:32 this needs to be up for a little while
Just a quick public service announcement. As a moderator I personally make literally hundreds of mod actions a week. On a pretty regular basis, I'll get a PM back from someone who protests But everybody else gets away with x!!!! Why don't you do x to them too!!! It's not FAIR for you to single me out!!!!"
Here's the super-secret, hush-hush, covert reason why those "other people" don't get punished:
NOBODY MOD REPORTED IT. WE HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET.
Believe it or not, the moderators do NOT read every post that goes on dance.net. I'll occasionally trawl through boards I don't visit on a regular basis and clean things up, but going through hundreds of threads on dance costumes I'm not interested in buying (for example) is not exactly how I want to spend every evening.
If you get busted for breaking the rules, it does NOT mean we're out to get you, have a personal vendetta going against you, or anything like that. We don't have time. All of us have jobs, or kids, or church activities, or school, or any number of other obligations, so we really don't have time to be mad at you. We're not out to ruin your day by deleting your irrelevant comment off a "for sale" post, or removing a thread that doesn't meet posting guidelines. You may have several comments removed by a moderator in a row if they don't follow the rules, but only because that person is the only moderator online--not because we're hunting you down. And if you see other people breaking the rules, it doesn't mean YOU'RE entitled to break them either. So getting caught and saying "So-and-so does it all the time and they don't get their comments deleted / a ban / whatever!" is not a valid excuse or protest for your actions.
If you want to prevent your comment being removed, please read the stickies on the boards detailing what's acceptable and what's not. We don't give warnings; we just remove it. It's your responsibility to read the rules--it's our responsibility to enforce them. So if you don't get a warning and have something removed--please see the information about "personal vendettas" above.
So use the mod button if you see someone who's getting away with the same thing you got caught doing. We promise to take care of it with swift justice.

She's LYING!! The Mods ARE omniscient... and they ARE out to get you. Well... only certain people.
Obviously... I am not one of those people. Because I'm fabulous. Oh, and I'm sleeping with most of the Mods we have. Mostly Dani.
But fo realz... people need to lay off the Mods for "singling them out". The Mods we have are AWESOME, and they do a lot for us. If you see someone doing something YOU got a post removed for--- or you were banned for... MOD REPORT IT!! |

I second the shenanigans! I mean, I can totally feel a mod channeling me right now and monitoring my post even as I type it out. I'm cool like that, yo.
And as someone who has modded stuff before *glances shiftily side to side* I can say that sometimes it takes time before a mod can attend to the problem - maybe more than a day or two, but situations get taken care of. However, much like the police, where if a crime isn't reported/caught in the act, they don't know there's an issue to take care of, the mods need the help of common folk like you and me to flag things that we see wrong. Which means it's up to you, and you, and you, and not you, well, on second thought, you, and you, you, you, and you, yes you stop hiding behind the monitor to a) KNOW THE RULES and b) MOD posts that break the rules.
Knowing is half the battle!

It's true Dani, you ladies aren't omniscient. But you're pretty darn nice, the whole lot of you. (Not to mention pretty hot as well).
Andre
PS. About that long-winded venting post I wrote about my deep-seated "feelings" regarding disco dancing a few months back and then hit the "post" button when I meant to hit the "delete and go to bed" button and you intercepted it before the DDN community was able to form a lynching party and come looking for me, well thanks again for that. |

We've all done it, no shame!
That being said, this post is a complete pile of crap and I'm frankly shocked that this kind of propaganda is being spread throughout the DDN community. It's common knowledge that mods get special mind-reading training that begins six months before the magic colours appear around their names. The training is much like that received by psychology undergraduates ("So, what's your major?" "Oh, psychology, how about you?" "WHAT so are you reading my mind RIGHT NOW?! CREEPY STAY OUT OF MY THOUGHTS" "Ha... ha ha. I've uhh, never heard that one before"). |

Going off that, I'd like to thank whoever deleted my drunken 3 am posting which, by the looks of it, was 90% typos in which I vaguely remember going on to let the DDN community know how much I loved them all. Yeah...sorry about that. At least I didn't drunk post about how much I hated everyone! I am a nice DDN drunky. |

I feel like the mods are getting at me tonight, but I guess I posted a few bits on the wrong pages...do protest at one part though where I whinged but didnt name anyone and then got told I was singling people out or something! I think onces a mod gets you once on one night they keep looking for your posts!
Just so we are aware everyone I never seek to annoy anyone or put offensive posts |

Ooooor maybe I've been the only one who's been consistently on all day tackling the mod requests.

True. I've just gotten out of bed (it's 8.00am over here), and so far only Dani has been modding today. Nobody else has been online. It's not personal, just circumstance.

I know...sure does feel personal after a while tho, especially when you already upset a few people on here with just one post (and it wasn't done intentionally) the other times I didn't even realise there were different boards I should have posted on...how do you become a mod anyway? I will stop posting naughty posts if I can be one! ha ha ha |

Seriously...Dani is the only one that has been on. Should she just leave posts that are clearly in the wrong spot or not remove posts that are clearly a terms of service violation just because she has already removed some of your posts earlier in the day? When we are available to work, then we take care of all mod reports and situations that we find. We can't really pick and choose and if members think we are being unfair then so be it. The owner gets a copy of every single mod report and action we take on the site as well as the head moderator Calypso. Write to one of them if you feel you are being singled out. I guarantee that we don't have time to create little feuds and vendettas against members. We try to enforce the rules as the owner has laid out for us, remove or edit posts according to his guidelines. |

Head moderator sounds like a great job. I know really I am not being singled out, I was just having a bad day! obviously! Nice posts in proper places from now on!
Just out of curiosity, how many posts get mod actionned every day...and are there any that a really really bad? |

It varies. We've seen as few as about 25, and as many as 200 or more in a single day.
I think among our personal favorites are the ones who seriously report posts on April Fools Day, because they didn't remember what day it was! LOL! |

I did a good job of bumping the quota last night...*note to self when in a bad mood and fed up don't rant on dance.net*
I guess its a bit like being a teacher, one day all the kids are naughty the next they are angels! |

I'd join on the following conditions:
Incorporating the Mod song every hour, on the hour to build moral.
A lifetime supply of Blatz beer and canned ham. Not for ingesting, I have a fetish that I don't want to get into full details about, thankyouverymuch.
Ability to edit posts will-nilly to include the lyrics to Trololo.
These are my demands. You have 2 hours or I blow up the interwebz. Muah. Ha. Ha. |
