Hi, I'm going to be a freshman next year and I have tryouts for the Poms team next week! At my school, they perform Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop, so I guess it could also be called a dance team, but they call it Titan Poms.

I've already attended 2 clinics (a 2-hour one offered by the team and one that was 1.5 hours every week for 6 weeks at the studio I dance at) and I take three other dance classes (2 Jazz and Ballet). I just started dancing last year, but have been told that I'm very good (by the studio owner and other teachers and other more experienced dancers), not to brag or anything. I'm in Level IV Jazz and Level IV Pre-Pointe Ballet. I used to take Poms at my studio and I was also on the Cheerleading/Dance Team at my Junior High for the past 2 years and was captain this year.

I'm very flexible and have very good kicks and all of my splits. My toe touch is hyper-extended and my Calypsos are pretty solid. I also have a solid double on my right and a pretty good double on my left. Also, my a la secondes are pretty good (I can do 5-8 w/o traveling) but I'd like to make them more solid.

I'd like to work on my right and left leaps (they're pretty good but I tend to go out as opposed to up), my Russian (side) leaps, and my triple on my right as well as more on my a la secondes.

At the tryouts, we do kicks and leaps across the floor, turns and toe touches in the center, and then a dance that is 4 8-counts Jazz, 4 8-counts Pom, and 4 8-counts Hip Hop, which we learn over three days leading up to the tryout.

Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks so much!! :D
