Help me name my car

Locked by rosalinde (213002) on 2010-06-27 11:46:57 Meet Sebastian everybody! LOL Thank you!

This is not my actual car, but it is the right kind, a red Toyota Aygo, 5-door, basic model.

I bought it in August 2008 and wanted to get to know it a little before naming it. I named previous cars after getting them and then the name and the name didn't end up matching.

Soooo ...
My car is definitely male, quite down-to-earth with a hint of naughtiness hidden behind a funny little face. He loves being washed (I swear, I've had red cars all my life, but this car looks redder than any previous rides after being washed, he must be quite vain!), but doesn't mind other cars driving faster (he has no choice, an Aygo can't go faster than 155 km/h ...). Oh, and after two years he still smells like new although that has absolutely nothing to do with me, so he must be a clean-cut little man!

Argo the Aygo...from Argonaut legend of Greek mythology.

And where are you (in general terms?) I note this car has left hand drive, which eliminates the UK, OZ, NZ etc. I've never seen one in the USA where we have the conceptually similar but somewhat larger Yaris.

BTW, I'm a BIG Toyota fan. My wife and I now have our 13th and 14th Toyotas. I have a Camry (4 door Sedan), She has a Highlander SUV, most for hauling the grandsons around. While they still made them, we both had the sporty Celicas in every major body style they ever made. It jazzed up my wife's image as the "little old lady school principal." Kids in her school would misbehave just because they thought she would drive them home in hers. LOL

Actually it looks like a rebadged Matrix.

Personally all my vehicles are called the money pit until paid off.

However when I had a Jeep, I realized the name means- Just empty every pocket.

My friend has a car that looks just like that and it's name is Booble. Which actually turned out to be a porn site, but she didn't know that when she named it. I like Sebastian.

Sebastian is a cute name, I like it!

Chaconne: I'm in the Netherlands and this is actually not the smallest Toyota out here, the IQ is even smaller (between an Aygo and a Smart).

^It never hit me just how big US cars, even those from foreign brands, are until I went to Europe for the first time three years ago. We do have a few (very few) people with the Smart (built by Mercedes, I believe). We rented a Hyundai Matrix (and had a ball with it) which was actually pretty big by European standards (and totally different from the Toyota Matrix which is sold here.) It was a bit of an adjustment to see the odometer/speedometer off to one side, which is not normal for US marketed cars. Other than the Smart, the Toyota Yaris (somewhat bigger than your car) and the Mini-Cooper and a few other comparables are about the smallest you are likely to see around here.

The US is very spread out and public transportation is simply not an option for most people here if you are anyplace but in a large city. Frankly, I don't even know how to use the bus system which comes to my village only to serve the hospital here. I occasionally use the subway to avoid parking downtown, but it is actually cheaper for me to drive my more-or-less full size car (Toyota Camry) than to take our very expensive Metro (subway.) My Camry has only a 4 cylinder engine and get rather good mileage. Because of deficits, there is a real trend here to curtail bus service. Our Metro is about to have another significant fare increase. Washington has one of the most extensive subways in the US. I suspect that only NYC and perhaps Boston and Chicago may have bigger ones. When I worked, I couldn't even consider public transport. It simply did not exist.

^ I do have to say about the Smart. When I lived in Arizona (Phoenix, and Scottsdale), there were a LOT of Smart cars around! More than you'd expect!
Very cute, and you can parallel park with out parallel parking.
I wouldn't think they are very safe even with the "spherical" cage like thing they claim to have.
Consumer Reports does not rate them very highly either.

By the way, does your Aygo have any space in the back? It looks to be the back seats are right on the bumper! I'd be scared to sit in it if that's the case.

^ Not really, I can fit a duffel bag in the back, but that's about it. But a lot of cars around here are like this, small cars are very common. A guy at the end of my street has an American pick-up truck (one can always tell it's an American car, they need these funny little licence plates that you can't read ... ;) ) and it's massive compared to what you see on the roads generally!

I love my tiny car since I have all the sense of space of a colour-blind rabbit ... But, yeah, it's small and I have no doubt about who's going to win if I ever crash my car into another car -- if that other car isn't an Aygo (or similar) too, I lose ... But the mileage is fantantic, and it was cheap to buy new. And I'm the enternal optimist! ;)

WOW! I actually have this car. Except mine is the three door version and a girl. After a little help from DDN I named her Lola as she's red and sporty and a little bit spicy.

I vote Sebastian...he's red, cute and a little feisty. Just like the Aygo is :D
