 Twirling NBTA worlds en>fr fr>en By Twirler7474 Comments: 174, member since Mon Apr 24, 2006On Wed Jul 28, 2010 09:40 PM
Hey! So I was wondering- Does NBTA come up with a world team- twirl team? I know USTA puts together a team of the best of the best that people have to try out to be on. Does NBTA do anything like this? If so, who is usually in charge of that? Thanks for any info! 13 Replies to NBTA worlds |

Do you mean for USTA competitions? If so, I'm quite certain the answer is no. NBTA hosts is own form of worlds... I believe it is every three years (Last one was 2009 so the next should be 2012) They have qualifiers at each national competition the year before the competition and it is either the top 3 or 5 in each qualifying category that get to go. |

No, I'm talking about NBTA worlds. On a worlds year in USTA they will have tryouts for those who want to be on the world twirl team (I believe this is correct). I was wondering if NBTA does this as well. |

There are no actual tryouts. It is just the top 3 in each of the age divisions of the events from nationals. Duet and team only has the National Champion that goes to worlds. |

During a world qualifying year at AYOP (NBTA Nationals) the top 5 in each individual age category twirl off for a spot in the top 3 in their age division in solo, strut, 2-baton, and duets, rhythmic twirl does not have a twirl off, it is just the top 3 in the divisions. So for the twirl offs the top 5 13, 14, and 15 year olds all compete against each other for the top spots. For the teams, the top 5 adv. dance twirls and twirl teams have to compete again in the finals and the winning team goes to worlds. |

The team for USTA worlds, I mean the team of twirlers that does a routine together, tries out. YES, from time to time, and this year is a good example, where the world team is from Florida but they have recruited and tried out as a unit with other champion twirlers. The plus is you get lots of great twirlers. If there is a negative, is that until near the end they only practice together on the weekends.
BEST of luck to team USA this week in Norway, and individuals competing in their divisions.] |

Next year (2011) will be a world qualifying year for NBTA, to represent USA in 2012. The top three in the Juvenile thru Senior Divisions for the following events will qualify for Worlds:
Solo: Grand Nationals
Two-Baton: Friday Finals (see above posts to qualify to retwirl)
Strut: Friday Finals
Duet: WINNING Duet from Friday Finals (only top 3 retwirl in finals)
Rhythmic: Top-Three from each age division
Teams: WINNING teams only for Junior & Senior divisions, dance twirl and twirl teams. Possibly the Pre-Teen division, too.
The next world qualifying year will be 2014 for Team USA in 2015.
Hope this helps:) |

I think the answer to your question is "no." In general, there is no competition team that is pulled together every 3 years in order to qualify to represent the US at Worlds (NBTA). And certainly not at the direction or encouragement of NBTA itself.
Teams that frequently represent the US are Wheaton & Dynamics (both from MD). They are groups that have been around for decades. Twirlers may travel distances to be part of the team, but not specifically for World qualifying years.
There may be teams which hold auditions to be members (certainly many hold auditions within their own group for the "A" team vs. "B" team). From time to time there are teams that pull twirlers from different groups or at least from different coaches. I helped with a team (Spirit of Massachusetts) which would generally only compete at Nationals together because the individuals all came from groups that didn't send teams to Nat'ls (or didn't have enuf attend). Another team that drew twirlers from many different teachers is/was New Alliance. I'm not sure how their membership worked as far as auditions, etc. But again, those teams were present on any given year, not just World qualifying years.
I think that answered your question (?). |
