Cheerleading Am I Ready For All-Star Cheer? en>fr fr>en By DanceforTheWin Comments: 12, member since Thu Jul 22, 2010On Sun Aug 29, 2010 02:48 PM
I have cheered on and off for four years and i'm on dance team at my school this year. I have flown for preps and extensions and done libs and arabasques. i have good left hurkies and hurdlers, excellent right herkis and hurdlers, and a good toe touch. i want to be a flyer but i haven't stunted in a while and i'm kinda rusty. I also can't tumble to save my life (except for cartwheels). The gym I want to go to is 30 minutes away and pretty cheap, but I still want to fundraise (which I SUCK at!) any advice on practicing stunts alone, flexibility, fundraising, and time managment? 1 Replies to Am I Ready For All-Star Cheer? |

Its really going to depend on the level of the team. I haven't done All Star for a while as I'm now a college graduate, but I did it all four years of high school on Level 3 and 4 teams. From what I understand, now they have even more levels for teams who stunt at one level but tumble at another. This could be good news for you. From your description of stunting your probably at about a level 3 depending if you can twists from your preps and extensions. You'll probably need to work more on flexibility in order to do a heal stretch and a scale or scorpion. Splits and over splits are great for working on heal stretches. If you look on the disco forms here you'll probably find some great advice for stretching your back. As I said, you can be ready for an all star team if they compete at the right level for you. You probably aren't going to make a level 4 or 5 team this year but you could do well at Level 3. You might be a bit bored with Level 2 and there aren't that many level 2 teams for what I presume your age to be. Basically the only way you will know you are ready is to call the gym and ask. Note that they might not have spots available right now. Most all star teams have tryouts in the beginning of May and train and go to camps all summer. But many times teams don't fill up until closer to competition season and there are also people who end up quitting. If there are no spaces available ask if you can be an alternate and that way you can learn the routines and get some practice in to be ready in case they need you. That would show you really are committed to doing this. Good luck! |
