I was listening to my favourite songs playlist on iTunes and just wondered: what are all of your favourite ever lyrics to songs?

Also I have many little bits in songs that just make me smile, for instance: The riff at the start of Here Comes Your Man by The Pixies instantly cheers me up, and the bit where he goes falsetto near If You're Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To) by Weezer makes me smile.

Concerning my favourite lyrics:

Bright Eyes-"Today is the first day of my life, glad I didn't die before I met you"

Death Cab for Cutie- The whole of I will follow you into the dark is beautiful.

The Shins- "I find a fatal flaw in the logic of love and go out of my head"

Grandaddy- "Should never have left the crystal lake"

The Decemberists- "This is the story of your red right ankle
and how it came to meet your leg and how the muscle, bone, and sinews tangled and how the skin was softly shed

And how it whispered “Oh, adhere to me for we are bound by symmetry and whatever differences our lives have been
we together make a limb.”

And my final one

The Thermals- "and I will hold you tight through the cold days and the frozen nights, passing all the days I switched to auto mode, days for which I've nothing to show. Pausing all the days I'm afraid I'll forget, the days only clear for a second."

There was a song I used to absolutely love the lyrics to until I found I actually had them wrong, it was a song by The New Pornographers called Challengers. I thought the lyrics said "Whatever the mess you are you're mine, ok?" they actually say "Whatever the mess you are you mind, ok?"
Still a lovely song.

And finally Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not a Robot. This song can reduce me to tears in a matter of seconds, although this is probably due to the circumstances in which I was listening to them, a friend of mine died recently after being hit by a car and we al gathered in his favourite pub on the day we found out. This song was one of his favourites and everyone put it on the jukebox for him. As soon as it came on there was not one dry eye in that pub and for this I'm going to love this song forever, even if it does break my heart to listen to it.
