Acro/Tumbling Scared to step away from the wall... en>fr fr>en By sky_dancer_2010 Comments: 190, member since Sat Nov 10, 2007On Wed Sep 15, 2010 05:05 PM
At my studio, when we're learning handstands/handstand postitions/elbow stand stalls, we use the wall for support and balance... not only can i hold a handstand less than a foot from the wall without touching it, but i can hold a c curve, an s curve, a split, a single stag, and a double stag close to the wall, but when I start trying to do it in the middle of the floor, I loose my balance and get scared and ususally just end up compleating the front/back walkover....
is there any way that I can get the right mind set to hold my positions in the middl of the floor as well as i can next to the wall? 1 Replies to Scared to step away from the wall... |

I think you might be using the wall as a reference point of your balance. You can compare how straight you are because you have this perfectly straight object right there but once you get away from the wall you have to figure it out through feeling and not as much visual. I think its just a matter of being more confident and that will come with practice. When you are doing the handstands close to the wall make note of how you feel and how you are adjusting yourself. Pay specific attention to your abs and butt. Make sure you are squeezing tight together. |
