Hi everyone,

Have seen some posts on our Asia sticky regarding adult ballet classes and ballet exams. Thought I'd start this post so that people can ask away hopefully without the threat of their posts being deleted. Yes, there are many ballet schools in Singapore that offer teen and adult beginner classes. Some more serious than others. If you are keen to take ballet exams but have not done ballet before, you can try to start at any introductory class then try other classes or ask your teacher for advice. She/He will then know you are serious about dance and may suggest different classes for you to go to depending on your ability and goals.

And about exams, anyone taken/taking their exams this year? How did you do!! Mine are in 2 weeks :D

I took my Interfound on 5th September and took Grade 5 in March. Grade 5 was my first exam but sadly i got merit (70).

Not being spoiled or anything but examiner was rather tough since she only gave 1 girl 75.

How was your Interfound?

Hi~ Well, pity about the marks for your Grade 5, but since it was a strict examiner, I'm sure your Grade 6 will be great :) My exam for inter-found was really quite alot of fun and I made new friends too! I think I may be dropping from Grade 7 to Grade 6 next year. Do you know when to expect the marks?
How was your inter-found?

I think you asked me on another forum but its okay i will write it down here xD

It was pretty good!

You had the same examiner too?

Well the studio was rather slippery so my pirouettes en de hors wasn't really too good.

I was really nervous since i made some mistakes like my echappes to second on the barre, i don't know why i stopped halfway but she was nice to make us re do again so i re did.

I did 1st port de bras, and she made us do both sides, somehow i got scared again and from first to fifth when it was suppose to be from first to fifth.

For free enchainment it was echappe sautes to second twice then sissone ferme under, over, under. Arms was second for echappe sautes then ferme under, third, over, demi bras, under, third again.

Oh wells, i think she could tell us i was dead nervous because i was literally covering up my fear by my expression.

Pray that i get a good grade for it (Though i am hoping for a distinction )

I heard that Intermediate Foundation results would be released around November or maybe December but since i got my Grade 5 results pretty late (Like around June or July)it could be later.

Where are you dancing?

Hmmm with regards to dropping to Grade 6, you gotta ask your teacher :) and by dropping to Grade 6 and completing Grade 8, you can be a member with RAD and getting discounted prices for Vocational exams :)

Hi! Good to hear your exam went well. I do hope you get distinction, and I can't wait for the results! Our teacher was Mr Lithby - he was very nice to us. Explained how the exam would go in the beginning and gave very clear instructions of who to do what and where.
Our free enchainement was eschappe saute to second changing feet x 2 then coupe chasse pas de bourre close in 5th, assemble over. He let us mark it several times with the arms till all of us got it correct. The exam was very concise and we had lots of good breaks.
Our pianist was quite abit slower than the cd though, so we had to adjust to prevent being out of time with the music.
Yah I've started re-learning grade 6 and it's so complex compared to grade 7!!
I wonder what our teacher has in mind for us :)
Hows dancing coming along after exams? I feel I've lost my feet abit :)

Since you had Mr Lithby, your exam was pretty late right?

Ms Tarrant took the first half of Vocational Exams while Mr Lithby took over the second half.

My pianist was sometimes fast and sometimes slow. For the dance, I remember I had to stay up pretty long since she was taking her time to play --"

Eh, I still continued dancing intensively after exams :P So it is not much of a problem for me :D
