OMG, this Thursday I'm going to have my eyes fixed! en>fr fr>en

I just payed the balance to have extra-lens implants in my eyes. I've worn glasses all my life and hated them for just as long, but I cannot wear contacts (long boring story). So I've finally decided to take the plunge and get my eyes fixed.

I was planning to get a Lasik treatment, but after visiting half a dozen clinics I was told by literally every one of them that laser-treatment was not an option for me (both because of how bad my eyes are (I'm terribly myopic) and because I have hardly any tear-fluids, one of the reasons why I could never wear contacts), I've decided to get extra-lens implants. For those who don't know what that is: the surgeon will put in a kind of contact lens between my own lens and the cornea. It's like people who have cataracts, but there they replace the patient's own lens, and in my case I get an extra lens in front of my own. Sounds pretty scary, huh? ;)

It's really quite expensive and the first time I've ever had to pay for surgery myself (all my previous hospital treatments were covered by insurance and I never got billed of course), but I'm thinking of this as an investment in my future. And, well, my vanity (might as well be honest about that aspect as well). So I'd been saving for ages and I finally had the money to do it so I went for it.

The clinic I've chosen is one of the best (and one of the most expensive, but it's quality that counts here) in the country and I've been to visit them twice and they gave me a good impression, so, yeah, I'm excited.

Just had to share! I can't wait to be glasses-less at last!

Oh wow, you must be so psyched! I am terribly myopic as well, and even though I can wear contacts (and do), I would love to have my eyesight permanently fixed.

Good luck for the operation and for the rest of your glasses-free lifetime!

Erin.

Congrats :)
I had Lasik 2 years ago now and I am so glad I did. I can barely remember the hassel of glasses now :) I went wakeboarding and tubing at the cottage this summer and never had to worry about my contacts washing out.

Thank you! My eldest brother had lens implants last year (he has the same eye problems as I do, you'd almost think we're related ;) ), and I was more than happy for him to be the guinea pig of the family. He's very happy with it, so, yeah, let's ditch those spectacles!

I won't be allowed to wear eye make-up for at least a month, but I can't wait to wear eyeliner and mascara and everything when I can wear make-up and not have to ask someone to apply it!

I had LASIK done 11 years ago and it was the best money I spent ever. While I didn't have the same procedure as you are having, all I can say is that I was so glad I had it done.

It was a better investment than my house, cars, dog, ect. Clear vision without any assistive devices and to also have a lifetime warranty is great.

Well, it's been two hours since the procedure (I'm at the clinic, waiting for my brother to come and pick me up as I'm not allowed to drive now). They gave me a pill to calm down (although I was scarily calm already, so I'm a bit woozy now ;) ). I'm wearing dark sunglasses now so my brain still thinks these glasses are fixing my sight, can't wait to try my own eyes. The surgeon said my eyes responded extremely well so he let me go a full 90 minutes earlier, but I've chosen to spend those 90 at the clinic (they have a very snazzy lounge with, as you can tell, free broad-bandv Internet access) just in case.

Check up tomorrow and 4 weeks of enough eyedrops to flood a small-sized country, but okay ...

Very happy so far!
