How many cars have you owned (including the one(s) you have now if applicable)

I noticed a few 'My first car!' posts, so I thought it might be fun to see how many cars have belonged to DDNers!

I'm on my third car. First car was a Volvo 340, second car was a Rover 420, and my current car is a red Toyota Aygo called Sebastian.

92 explorer
94 subaru wagon
99 subaru legacy
85 ford truck
02 subaru GT
92 plymouth

03 tiberon

I loved the Prius and the Beetle the best. I gave up on subaru when the gas prices went from a dollar a gallon to four!

3 Cars. Started with a 2000 Toyota Echo which I still miss and adore. Totaled it 6 months into having my license. Then I had a green 2000 Toyota Corolla which fell apart faster than...something that falls apart really fast. Now I have a white 2005 Toyota Camry. What can I say? My family likes to buy Toyotas....

17...but I've been at it since 1964, the year I got my own first car. All but four have been Toyotas. I got rid of my last non-Toyota in 1984. Three were ultimately shared with my kids.
We have always had at least two cars since 1970 when my wife returned to the workforce.

For one brief not so terribly shining moment we had six cars, but my kids had one out in their summer job in Wisconsin, I had bought a car for my son to use for college and my wife and I bought a new car and hadn't yet unloaded an older one. We were back to four cars two months later.

So I have had
1960 Chevrolet Impala...worst car I ever owned. A real dog, but spiffy looking. Bought used in 1964 just after college. Previous owner, a friend of my mom's was credit manager for local Chevy dealer so I could buy it with no down payment (1/3 down was the norm back then.) That was the only reason I bought that car.
1967 Dodge Coronet 440 Plain Jane for use with two little kids.
1970 Plymouth Duster. Bought when we became a 2 car family. Cheap for a new car. GM and Ford were both on strike and new cars were had to find.
1974 Toyota Celica. We were all set to buy a Toyota wagon when we passed a car like this one . I told the saleman I liked it and he said "do you want to drive it?" (really dumb move by a salesman when we said we would buy another car.) My wife said "It's love at first sight" It was! She couldn't drive a stick shift. "I'll learn if I have to." She did...on two lessons...and drove that car every day for the next six years when I got a new one for her. My kids learned on this car and both can drive stick (unusual now for an American.) After I sold this car (with 175K miles) the next owner, a former neighbor, put 150K on it before it was junked, but still running.
1977 Dodge Aspen Wagon. Bought when Duster threw a rod.
1978 Toyota Celica Coupe (bought used in '84 when son went to college. I later used it.)
1980 Toyota Celica Hatchback, wife's car, later used by daughter and then went to college for both kids.
1981 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, bought used because it looked cute. Everyone in family used it at one time or another
1984 Toyota Celica GTS My "midlife crisis" car. Wife drove all but 2000 miles, then let my son use it. It was fire engine red...first of a sucession of red cars.
1987 Toyota Celica Hatchback My car exclusively.
1991 Toyota Celica Hatchback
1991 Toyota Celica Hatchback My wife and I bought two identical (except for color) cars on the same day...mine brighte red, her's dark red (maroon.)
1995 Toyota Celica bought used in '96 with only 5000 miles on it, girl at my work got divorced and couldn't make payments. I took over payments and gave her my 1991 so she had something to drive.
2000 Celica Our last Celica before they quit making them. Wife's car for the most part. Destroyed the image of the little old lady school principal. Kids would misbehave on the hope that the principal would have to take them home.
2002 Toyota Solera. Bought in an emergency. I had shoulder surgery and couldn't drive a stick shift during recuperation. First automatic car in 32 years.
2005 Toyota Highlander SUV My wife's present car, bought for hauling grandkids around with more or less permanent safety seats in the back.
2009 Toyota Camry XLE. My present car (also bright red) This thing has buttons on it I still havent' figured out what they do.
The $800 toilet is no longer in the back seat.:-P

All the cars except for the four noted were bought new (and the 95 Celica was virtually new.)

As we now drive less than 10,000 miles/year with each car, we have no immediately plans to buy any new ones.

16, I think. But I've been owning cars for over 30 years.

My very first car was a 1968 Vega station wagon that had been used as a beach car by the former owners, who I was babysitting for at the time. I wanted to buy it for $100 dollars and they felt guilty because it wasn't worth that much and just gave it to me. I was only 15 at the time, not even old enough to drive yet.

Meanwhile, my brother who was driving a 1970 Chevelle wrecked his car (rather, his girlfriend did) and he took my Vega and got it running and used it for school. This car was stolen on campus. We split the insurance money because his tools were in the car and they were worth more than the car. I used my half to make a downpayment on a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, which was my real first car since I never drove the Vega.

At the moment, I own five cars, including my kids cars, but I'm trying to sell two.

I'm still on my first car. It's an '03 Prius that my parents got when it first came out. But they gave it to me when I left for college since I need a car to get to dance classes off campus. I love it!

I said two. I had a 1993 Mazda Protege LX of my own that was totalled in an accident almost a year ago, and my boyfriend owns a Jeep that I guess technically is mine too but I don't drive it.

I've technically "owned" no cars, if you're speaking technically about a paid-off, deeded-to-you vehicle. However, I've driven 6 cars, one of which I purchased from the dealership and had the loan in my name, and all of which I called mine when I was driving them.

94 Ford Escort
00 Saturn SL2
03 Ford Focus
00 Hyundai Tiburon
01 Isuzu Trooper
08 Ford Focus

One car, a 2001 Corsa that I bought second hand. I was pretty lucky as she is the stereotypical "one careful lady owner" and has run like a dream all the time I've had her.

By the letter of the law, I've only "owned" 1 car. But, I've considered four cars to be mine.

My mom gave me her 1987 Buick Park Avenue when I graduated from high school. That made me awesome, because I was the only person in my class that got a car as a graduating gift, haha. It was silver, and that puppy was indestructable. I graduated in 1997 and drove it for two years, and my brother drove it for another 18 months after I did. That thing couldn't be killed!

Then I graduated to a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am. It was a really neat color - silvery plum. I loved that car like crazy. I literally drove that car until it could drive no more.

Then I moved up to a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire. I love that car, and amazingly, I kind of miss it. When it was just me getting myself around, that car was perfect. But of course, in the time I drove that car, I had my son who is now four, so I had to have a bigger car.

Just about a month ago, I got my newest car, a 2005 Chevy Equinox. It's metallic blue, and I can barely afford to keep gas in it (17 mpg street, 23 mpg highway, and my town has no freeway access, so you do the math...), but I ADORE everything about that car, save for it's tendency for the anti-theft to lock up and me not being able to start the car when it happens. It's not tan leather interior, and it's sparkly, and it's MINE! I can't believe I'm at a stage in my life where I need a SUV, but I evidentally am, and it's the best one my uncle could have possibly found me. I heart it!

2001 silver chrysler seabring (Mr. Smiley). I had him for 5 years. 3 months after I paid him off the engine died.

2005 jeep liberty (Storman Norman). I had him for less than a year and he was totalled 3 weeks ago :(
The tire blew up...the axle fell off and the car flipped.

I am now searching for my third car. I was madly in love with Storman Norman and am very sad he is gone.

I've had a 1994 P reg fiesta - was an amazing car but a bit of a chugger and no good for travelling long distance. I got it when I passed my test in 2007.

I then got a focus zetec 1.6 03 plate in 2008. Its great I love it. My electric windows packed in last year as I tried to open them when they were frozen and my air blowers have stopped blowing this year (the heating systems works hot and cold but no air blowing on 1-3 only on 4) but its minor details!

My ex has a fascination with citroens he had a saxo and has had 2 C2's - I hated all of them they are way too light on the steering!

This car count is really making me feel old.

First car - British Racing Green '67 Austin Healey Sprite

Two Ford Econoline vans and 3 Ford F250 Pick Up Trucks - don't remember the years, they were all yellow (for our trucking business in the infant days)Maaaybe '74?

Chevy Impala when they were still big - don't know the year,

Chevy Nova - '72 I think...maybe later

Some kind of silver Ford Station Wagon (to go with the 4th baby)

An even bigger Pontiac station wagon - three seats, door in the back - I felt like Carole Brady

Followed by a Chevy Diesel wagon - also huge - and it sounded like a truck, but it got great mileage.

Then, 4 GMC Safari Vans - 91, 94, 97, 2000
Each one nicer than the next. The last one was a custom conversion - my kids loved it. Sometimes, it looked better inside than the inside of our house.

Then, an "empty nest car" - even though I still had several kids at home. 2003 BMW 330xi - got so many speeding tickets in this car I had to go to "bad boy school" and watch movies and get lectured by a retired troop turned DMV examiner. The up side - after the humiliation of being ordered to this class, they took 2 points off my license for passing the written test.

Now I drive a VW Touraeg - it's the most amazing car. It's a diesel, has 10 cylinders, and so many bells and whistles I don't know how to use them all. The glove box is temp controlled to keep lunch, water, etc. cold. It's really my husband's car, but he handed it down to me when we sold the BMW and is driving my daughter's VW Jetta 'till be get another car.

I'm in the market for a new car. I'm tempted to get another BMW but with the economy so rocky I can't force myself to drive down the street in a new car. It would be kind of insensitive to my neighbors who are struggling (not logical, I know, but I can't help it...times are tough enough) The only reason I can afford one, of course, is that we paid off our house in 2003 or 2004. Still, just can't go there yet. Maybe after the winter is over. The Touraeg is OUTRAGEOUS in the snow. (although the xi BMW was pretty good for a smaller car)

Whew.... my carbon footprint is burning my conscience!
Maybe I should move to Hawaii and ride The Bus.

Keep On Dancing*

I've had 2.

I had a 1993 2 door green jeep Cherokee. I called the thing "The beast". Could literally go through anything, and as I am from Northern Canada it NEEDED that aspect. My sister inherited that car last year, and has since lost a door! lol poor thing had to be put down :(

I am now driving a 2003 Blue CR-V and I love it. Still go goes great in the winter, but it is a prettier, girlier car :D

Just one, my 2002 Pontiac Sunfire. I love my car a lot! The only thing I wish I would have done different is get a 4 door instead of a 2 door. Other then that though, the car is perfect. Really good on gas and has not had a single mechanical problem with it (knocks on wood).

I've been driving since 1996, and had three cars.

1974 Honda Civic which I only sold because it needed more work done to it than I could afford. It was a silver-blue, 4-door sedan (fairly rare for that generation of Civics), had a dodgy speedo that didn't work above 80km/h, and I adored it.

198-something Ford Meteor. This was actually a hand-me-down from my mum, and I have fond memories from when I was little of family road-trips in this car. By the time I got it, though the floor leaked when it rained, and I grew grass in the rear footwell.

1997 Hyundai Lantra. My man bought this at auction for me, and did it up himself. When he bought it, the front end had been significantly damaged in an accident, so he completely rebuilt that part of the chassis and engine. Tragically, just over a year ago, it was nearly totalled in an accident, and the exact same spot had to be rebuilt again. (The other driver's insurance paid for it this time). I love my Hyundai!

I've had my license for a little over two years, and I'm on my third car.

The first was a 1995 Mazda Miata, which is still running, but my dad took it to Arizona.

Second was a 1998 Nissan Altima, which a family friend gave us when she moved to Japan. I drove it for about a year, because it had much better visibility than the Miata. We traded it in this summer because it was seriously on its last legs, to the point where it would just shut down while I was driving. Terrifying.

My current car is a green 2010 Ford Focus, which I absolutely love. It's the base model (nothing fancy, it doesn't even have power windows!), but it's reliable and cute and I like it :)

I've had four cars since I turned 16. I voted three, but then I remembered the other one!

My parents bought me a 1994...something. Shoot. I don't even remember what it was now. Then it conked out on me. :(

Then I bought a...1997 ford tempo. It was a manual transmission, and I couldn't drive a manual transmission (minor detail), so I eventually gave it to my dad.

Then I bought a used 2000 PT Cruiser from a dealership...worst. Experience. Ever. Ended up in a lawsuit with the dealership because they said I wasn't approved for financing (yet they had been taking my payments for six months before they let me know of this), and then my stupid attorney lost the suit because he forgot to file some paperwork. So I lost that car real quick.

THEN I FINALLY got my own beautiful car. 2005 PT Cruiser. It had five miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Poor dear has been through 2 accidents and lots of dents and dings, so it looks ghetto now, but it was so wonderful 5 years ago...

In 2003, I learned to drive in my parent's 1994 BMW 325 in dark blue. Man, I LOVED that car. In 2006, some illegal jerk (proven — I'm not just saying that) backed into the car in his pick up while it was parallel parked and drove away, leaving it totaled :(

Drove our 1996 Plymouth Voyager for a few months before we got...

A used 1996 BMW 328 in deep red. Drove that for a couple years. My brother now has it at college.

During my time off after graduation (code for "I was unemployed and living at home"), I drove my mom's 2001 BMW 330ci silver convertible.

I now have the '96 Plymouth Voyager, again :) My family loves BMWs, as you can tell.

Technically 4, but one I drove temporarily for 6 months that my Dad bought (therefore I didn't own it), while my car was being repaired from an accident.

1. 1990 White Pontiac 6000 LE (My first! Also first and only accident in it; I was the innocent party) owned from September 2003-September 2006

2. 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra Sl(I think?) Sky blue. I Hated that thing! Thankfully it spontaneously combusted.... literally! owned from January 2007-August 2007

3. 1998 Lexus Es 300 Ruby red (2 tone) My favorite car that I have EVER owned! It has all the options available for that year :D Owned from August 2007-present day!

(the 4th car was a grey 2 tone 1985 Pontiac 6000 that I drove from Jan '04-July/August '04)

I've owned 6 cars altogether. Bought my first car with my own money, a brand-new
1980 Datsun 310GX. Bought it off the dealership lot on the condition that the salesman would show me how to drive stick. Drove it home in Friday rush hour and never drove an automatic again for the next 22 years, as my next 2 cars were also stick shift. I loved that car!
Drove it for 4 years, then got a
1978 BMW 530i. Next, a
1985 BMW 535i. Then a
1999 Toyota Camry (my first automatic transmission), which I am still driving. In addition I technically own my kids' cars, a
2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara (stick shift, of course), and a
2000 Dodge Stratus.
Like Chaconne, I taught my kids to drive stick. I waited til they'd been driving a year, then told them nobody should turn 18 without knowing how to drive stick. They are excellent drivers.

I've had 4...and I've only been driving about 5 years, so not very impressive lol. (With that said, only one of them was totaled by my fault)

-1998 Dodge Neon (Rear ended someone pretty bad, and since the car wasn't worth very much, it was totaled)
-1996 Chevy cavalier (Was a clunker...finally broke down and would have cost more than it was worth to repair it)
-2001 Neon (I actually loved this car...it was in great shape and fully loaded...some special luxury edition, with leather, chrome, and all that fun stuff. Someone T-boned me and it was totaled)
-2007 Chevy Cobalt (My current car. I don't love it, but it is in good shape and drives really nicely. I just don't like the look of it. I've been saving up for a Lexus IS250...hoping to have that in the next year as a graduation present to myself when I get my MA in may!!!)

I have been driving 4 years and am on my 2nd car :D

1997 Toyota starlet (shitlet)
2007 Toyota Yaris hatchback (yet to be named)

The shitlet was an awesome car! It travelled the length of Australia multiple times :D not the most comfortable of road trips but I knew I could rely on it! I had to trade it in though as it was a money pit :(

Oh and if you think of an awesome name for the yaris please share! haha
