I recently signed up for a middle eastern dance class at college this spring and was wondering what do I wear to practice in?

First of all, find out if your teacher has a dress code. If so, follow it, if not, dress comfy. Showing your stomach is not a requirement. Just make sure you wear something where the teacher can see what your legs are doing from about the lower-thigh and down.

Get a hip scarf, with coins or without. Ask the teacher what is allowed. Some teachers do not like hip scarves with coins and or bells on them. They have a tendency to shed at times and some dancers have been known to trip on the shedding.

Have fun!

My teacher told me to wear something that is comfortable, but tight enough to see my body / my legs :) I would recommend you to wear the right shoes, too (it was annoying for me to dance with socks only).
