For a number we did we used ACDC's Long Way to the top. Pretty upbeat.
This is Youtube link.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing....I thought I read somewhere that the music had to be "Celtic", but I have seen some great and very deserving choreographies that were done to pop music and won.

I agree the ACDC number(although it has bagpipes in song) would only stand up at some competitions.
Here is another very fast and up beat. It is the Seamus re mix by Keltic Electrika.
We turned it into a cowboy number and again would probably not stand up at all competitions.

According to the rules set out by the SOBHD regarding choreography competitions, Both the music and the theme of the dance should be Celtic or Nautical in nature. Keep in mind that a small riff on the pipes will not make the music celtic and a cowboy dance generally doesn't fit the rules of competition.
HOWEVER... if you are creating a dance for a specific theme, for a performance or for performances in shows or closed events, you can dance whatever makes you happy.
I agree that the Tannahill Weavers are a great resource for music. I find Alasdair Fraser's music either too slow for a highland choreography or else having too few notable changes within the music to create dimensions within the dance ie changes in rhythms, tempo and time signatures within his sets. |

Do you have a theme ? We always do Scottish and another type of music combined. This year we are doing bollywood and highland music. Bagpipes From Baghdad by Eminem with no lyrics is a great one! |

Just google it. I find it repeats the main beat and that is all, over and over and over ...... |
