I had a photoshoot courtesy of my friend who loves photography. We took about... 400 pictures? These were my favorites out of the 90 or so she put up on Facebook. I have another favorite, but it's on her Flickr. I'll link you, and also give her credit.

Any feedback is appreciated - and remember, this was just for fun! [:

You are a lovely model and your friend is quite talented. I also looked at a bit of her flicker and I particularly liked the one of you where you are on the left side of the photo and there is a blurb in the lower right. Tell her that is an interesting composition and I think I like it better than the ones you have here, good as they are.
Number one is composed very well and I like the effect of the red hat and the red/rust siding in the background (I have the same sort of siding on my house, I never thought of using it as a backdrop. Something she might try to do (and this is actually pretty advanced) is to try to get some sparkle in your eyes. I have done this by using white styrofoam poster board...I leave one side white and the other side I glue aluminum foil so that the dull side is on the outside. Have someone hold the board (I used about a 16" x 20") so that the photographer can see it reflected in your eyes. I've also used fill flash for this (very little) and as a more advanced technique, I've used studio flash when I've done it indoors.
I agree with your friends about #2. I'm not sure if her intent was to be a portrait or a fashion shot, but it works pretty well as either. This is the sort of thing you'd see in Seventeen magazine. (I do have to laugh about "17" because 25 years ago, I took a college course in fashion photography at a local junior college. I was already an instructor of adult ed photography at the time, a working part-time professional photographer and I got a "C" in the course because the professor (also a working pro) told me he wanted "Vogue" or "Bazaar" photos and I was giving him "17". Most of my models were friends of my then- teen daughter and were probably the same age you are now. And the photos I shot were very much like this one. What was funny though was that at that time I already had a bachelors degree and a Masters Degree in other fields and had never gotten a "C" in a college course before.
#3 now here is a case where she did get some sparkle into your eyes and that little dot(s) of light make you seem to have a totally different mood...bright, lively, the kind of person people want to be around. Normally I'd object to the bright contrasty light on your face (compare that with the beautiful skin tone of the Flicker lead shot mentioned above where your skin tone is really about as perfect as one will get in a B/W photo.
#4 I think this is my favorite pose of the lot and it works either as portraiture or as fashion. I might have liked to have seen you a little more to the left to show the lovely patterned tights you are wearing.
#5 The really good thing about this portrait is the dashes of color...the reds and the yellows. I only wish that the red on top of your shoulder wasn't a stop sign.
I would encourage both you and your friend to do more of this.

Thanks! In the first two pics, that was a fence we found. Yeah... we trespassed around her neighborhood a bit, but her neighbors are pretty used to it. Haha, we will definitely be taking more photos! Dance photos coming soon - after I get my pointe shoes. |

I really love the third photo on this thread, but I had a quick look through the flickr, and really loved 12, 9 and 4! |
