Beauty - Makeovers Trying to decide what to do when I cut it all off! en>fr fr>en By Krystal Comments: 7988, member since Tue Sep 02, 2003On Wed Feb 02, 2011 12:26 PM

[the first picture is one I made up seeing what I would look like with short hair ]
As a few of you know, I'm growing my hair out to donate. My plan is to get it to my waist by August/September, and at the rate my hair grows that is a very reachable goal! I'm about four inches away from that.
When I cut it I know I want a lot of layers, somewhere around shoulder length, maaaybe a little shorter. Only requirements is it has to still get into a ponytail for work and I don't want anything super high maintenance. Blow drying it every day is fine but I don't want to straighten it, my hair can get straight simply by blow-drying. Not to mention I definitely don't have to patience for using a straightener!
My hair is very thick with natural wave to it. It's also it's natural color, which I don't really want to change because I love it. If I do anything I would just get some highlights around the front.
Here is what it looks like now:
This is totally air-dried, natural wave and all:
A little longer than this now...this isn't how wavy my hair is IRL...was braided the night before.
And this is what I'm considering, please tell me if you think the style wouldn't work and/or wouldn't look so great on me!
I'm leaning more towards the last one...just because it's still long. But I also really like the other ones...and it WILL grow out again if it's too short! I'm probably going to have separation anxiety once I cut it so that's a reason why I don't want to go super short.
Aaah, it's so confusing. I know what I want and then BAM I get freaked out and settle on a longer 'do like the last picture. What do you guys think? 7 Replies to Trying to decide what to do when I cut it all off! |

I really like the hair with the first picture of you in the face thingy. It's super cute.
After reading your post and looking through the last couple of picture, I would say the 3rd one if you have to get it in a pony for work! Let us know! |

Go the third one.
Or, learn to love bobby pins. I worked in hospitality for years and was expected to have my hair in a ponytail...I got very good at pinning my random flyaway layers to look neat It's an art but you learn to perfect it!
I think you will look fabulous with shorter hair, I think you'll look older (in a good way, not a grandma, over 40's sporting a perm older). |

The first one, where you put your face in the hole, I thought it actually was you! I think that cut would look really cute! I'm actually cutting my hair like that this weekend and I too am a little scared! But excited. Whose face was in that picture originally? I should print that picture out for my cut.
This is the pic I saw that made me want to cut my hair shortish
Let us know what you did! |

So, Krystal, did you do it?
I did! I cut 5 inches off and I have the Hayden Panettiere hair now! I, and everyone else, love it! |

I bet it looks great! I haven't cut mine yet because I want it to be waist-length first, so probably August/September. I'm so excited. |

I did this same thing by the way. I had waist length (slightly longer) hair for my whole life until I was 24. I donated it, and the guy cut it a little longer so it wouldn't be so drastic. It was exactly like the first picture of the blonde woman in the purple. Only it did touch my collarbone. It was a little boring honestly. So 8 months later I cut it again. This time more like the photo balletsfriend put up. I could still get it into a pony tail by the way! A high one with a little fringe by the neck. Low ones were possible, but with only an inch of hair coming out haha. I did like it a lot! I'm growing my hair out again though. It's been 9 months since the really short cut, and it's just at or a little past my shoulders now. (my hair grows like molasses flowing uphill in the winter....)
Anyway. I had a really great experience! Don't be afraid to go shorter! Trust me, you'll want to a few months later if you don't. Sounds like your hair grows pretty fast. so go short!
I'd post a picture of mine, but I don't have my eye. |

^I have the cutest tiniest ponytail too! It's ridiculously adorable. Also- I've always hated pigtails, especially on grown women, but with this haircut I love them!
Ugh Krystal I want you to do it now!!! I need to post a pic of my hair. One day...probably when it's all grown out already lol |
