On the Judges' comments, what do they say you need to work on the most? en>fr fr>en

I most often get the "Turn out more" from the judges. Also I get some other stuff I can't even understand! What's the craziest thing that a judge has said for you to work on? :)

We don't get written comments in Britain. But a lot of the judges will give you a verbal hint or tip when you go to collect your medal. On one occasion I'd danced in a very small age group and managed to get through every dance acceptably well until the hornpipe, where I forgot my steps and walked to the back of the stage to let the other dancer continue. The heavy results were called and, presenting me with my last place medal, Bernard Hynes said (with a smile) "don't forget it in the trophy, for Heaven's sake". I daned the same hornpipe again in the heavy trophy and forgot it again in almost the exact same place, so went to the back again. Presenting me with my last place trophy, Bernard said "Jeez, what did I just say t'ya?"

Legend.

My most common comment is Timing or Rhythm. Although, it's getting a lot better than it used to be and I'm not getting it as much anymore.

I wish we got comments from the judges here! We don't get written or verbal comments so it's just our friends and teachers who can give us feedback.

Timing!!! My most common comment is "Nice feet, bad timing." I get good compliments on cross, turn-out, point, but in hard shoes especially, my timing needs work.

I love that we get comments pretty regularly in the Western US region. If I ever get a "constructive criticism" comment, it's about stamina. It's always been a challenge for me. On the upside, 9 times out of 10 I'll get a "great rhythm!" comment or something similar.

I always get comments that say to watch my timing and rythmn, starting with the first dance I did at my first feis. It's really frusterating because I have been working on that for five years and still can't stay with the music.

I've never actually seen the judges comments, but I have a story about one Feis and a judge.

I had fractured my wrist and needed my arm in a cast for 6 weeks. During this six weeks, I had a Feis. Apart from it being very heavy to dance with and getting really itchy when I was sweaty, it was fine. I placed surprisingly well. But when the judge went to shake my hand as he was giving me my medals, he didn't see the cast because of the sleeve, of my dress. As soon as he saw my arm, there was this really awkward moment of hesitation and then we both looked at each other and laughed. Instead of shaking my hand, he shook my finger. :P

I suspect the judges comments would be, for me: Smile more, turn out, crossing and lift.

We don't get judges comments either. I have only ever gotten feedback from a judge once, I was the only competitor in the last dances of the day so after I'd finished dancing, my teacher was talking to the judge and she gave some constructive comments on things I needed to fix e.g. my unruly left foot that turns in when I hop.

I always liked that I got the comment "nice", but came in last!

I get point/arch feet more ALL the time. Although since I got to open, my comments have had more to do with attack/stage presence/confidence.

I think the craziest thing that a judge has ever said to me was at this one feis (I was in prelim, I placed 5th.) I was the last awarded comp of the day everyone was cleaning up and milling around the area. After I got my results a woman came over and tapped me on the shoulder. I didn't recognize her, but she complemented me on my dancing. I thanked her and asked her where she was from. When she said "Ireland" I asked her what brought her to the states, and she gave me this look like "are you crazy??" and said "I judged you! I placed you first!" I turned bright red and stammered out a thank you and some other lame comment and left quickly after that. HAHA.

I also like when from one judge you get a comment like "nice rhythm" and from another on the same panel "watch rhythm and timing." I never know what to do with that.

It's always either "cross knees" or "don't sink on knees." I find this pretty amusing since I have knee issues. (/bizarre sense of humor)

I voted "other" because I get told that I need more lift but I am generally high on my toes so I'm assuming this means more bounce (since I have rather weak calfs). I once got the comment that my timing was off (fixed it and won that dance at the next feis). I've been told that I have nice arches which was worth the negative (but constructive) comments :)

It's usually "cross knees" for me. At my last feis I got the comment "cross eyes". I think a comma got cut off or something but it was pretty funny. I guess I should work on crossing my eyes when I dance... :P

Almost always the comment is "arms"! My dd especially has trouble keeping her right arm in. She is really working on it though.

No comments from the judges here either. I really wish we could, it would be nice to know how someone other than my mum to tell me how I went (she's learning but wouldn't see the difference between the champion and the last recall).

I used to always get turn out and cross over, but I don't really get those any more. Sadly...my scores remain roughly the same. *sigh*

My fiance did get 'more attack' on his treble jig. We're not really sure what to do with that...he was like 'well, I suppose I could stab the stage or something...'.

He also got one in his first feis competition saying he got points docked for having a step that wasn't "beginner" and it was recommended he move to novice. He got scooted up to advanced beginner courtesy of that, lol. And it was his first reel steps, too. I'm not sure what you do with that...

Mine were always cross over or timing.

However, at one feis I got my results back and the comments box was filled up with just about everything I've ever seen written on anyone's comments...I'm pretty sure it was a fluke in the entry or something because I don't think I could have made it to prelim if I seriously had to work on EVERYTHING and I just don't think the judge had that much time to write things down anyway. It was odd...

Sometimes I get told to be more consistent with my technique but once I was told to kick my leg higher to the front when I had seen it come inches from my face. I think he either wasn't paying attention or joking bcause my friend saw it too and thought he was crazy.

The craziest comment? I was doing my light jig and I accidentally kicked the girl who danced with me in the butt as she crossed in front of me. The judge's comment? "Nice kicks, kick own butt." I laughed my apparently un-kicked butt off. :D

I always get "Get on your toes!!!" One judge (who's been judging me for almost fifteen years now) continually writes that, even though I work on it a lot. The last time he judged me he wrote NEVER ON TOES and underlined it about forty times. It was funny in a sad sort of way.

I usually find comments on my arms (that are quite bad, I know...) and about timing, specially in hard shoes.

A other people have said, we don't get written comments in the UK, but sometimes judges give verbal comments when you get your medal. They're almost always about timing, though I had one about getting louder taps. The funniest I've had was when I was getting a medal from a judge and as I went to get it he said 'good garb' it was the 2nd feis in my solo so I was quite happy!
