my first feis personally was awful.. I was fighting with my mom, we were on time, but somehow missed my dance time, I didn't have a wig so my hair looked ehh.. not so great.. And I didn't place. It's fine though.. that was only the first feis..

so how was yours :)

I remember it. I didn´t place at all, but we were in time and all was fine. I was just too distracted looking at all the pretty dresses so my concentration was not the best. But we had fun and thats the most important for me :)

I don't really remember because I was 6. I do know that I placed first in all of my dances. I was probably just so excited to be dancing in front of people that I bet I didn't fuss too much. I wish I could say the same about future feisanna. I was a little brat when I was older. Hah.

Congrats on your first feis! Now you know the ropes a little bit and I bet you'll be a feis expert in no-time. Just for the future, it's usually a good idea to get to the venue at least 2 hours before you're supposed to dance, just so you can get your bearings - figure out where you dance, where the bathrooms are, vendor area, etc. Most syllabi suggest being ready one hour prior to your scheduled time.

I don't remember much except I placed in my reel and light jig - they were probably the only dances I actually did mind.

Hmm long long time ago...we are talking nearly 20 years now.

My first feis was a ton of fun. I got 2nd in both of my dances, it was in the early 80's so there may have only been two of us dancing, I don't remember but what I remember was having fun with my friends and family. It would have been outdoors at the Dayton feis.

For dd she had a great first feis as well. She tied for first with one of her friends in the Reel. Fell in her Light Jig jumped right back up and started back on time. The judge noted that she stopped nothing about falling and gave her last place. I was proud she jumped right back in it.

My first Feis, I was less nervous than I was at the State Championships last year...weird. Anyways, I had a blast, my teacher was really nice and told me what I needed to work on and I danced well for my first Feis. I think I did 5 dances and ended up with a Highly Commended for Reel and Third for Jig. I was nervous, but less nervous, like I said - butterflies, but nothing as bad as my first States.

I voted 'It was good, I just didn't do the best'. I did three dances and got third place out of four dancers in all three of them, so I was dissapointed, but I had lots of fun.

PS. I was 14 and had been dancing for about half a year. Now I'm 19 and am in novice and open prizewinner.

I voted for the first option, but only because my best friend and I did our first feis at the same time and split the firsts and seconds between ourselves. The experience itself was certainly not "the best experience ever though"

We were quite a bit older than the girls we were competing against so it felt kind of weird to be dancing against them and not like a very big achievement to win against them. Also, I don't really care for feising in general. This one was more exciting because it was my first, but it was still a lot of hurry-up and wait. Coming from a performance background the whole set up off a competition is very strange to me (even after I did it for two years). It was kind of a let down to have all this energy, then to wait around forever, then to get out and hardly dance and suddenly it's over.

DD's first feis was practically her best ever-LOL. It was the end of 2nd grade and she took 1st, 2nd or 3rd in every dance she did in Advanced Beginner. Was so cute with her little black skirt, white shirt and low pigtails (no chance of ever curling her poker-straight hair). I put her in black tights, too--not poodle socks. I guess I didn't really know any better back then. This was Comhaltas in Maryland. So much fun--and I even took pictures--I really was clueless back then! :?

As an adult, there were only 3 of us scheduled. It was the CNY feis, so it was in a brick building at the New York State Fairgrounds. Very loud inside. They switched stages. I never heard the announcement - thank goodness my husband did. He RAN out to the car to get my dress. The guy from my school and I were on time. Did our 1st 2 dances (I only did jig and reel anyway). The other woman showed up after that. Judges were kind enough to let her dance. Due to that I got a silver and bronze rather than a gold and a silver, but I was pretty happy anyway.

It was sooo hot inside the gym, and I only placed 4th in my hornpipe (adv. beginner). But the good news was, that my next feis I placed all firsts!

My first place was last year and I went to Dublin to compete!
It was awesome, I danced as a Adult beginner. I placed first place 7 times!!! I loved it!!!! It was an unforgettable experience.

Mine was in October... but I had been dancing 4 years beforehand, just started at a competitive school, and I was pretty comfortable in all my dances... I was dancing against ten year olds in the begginer things I did, and a 12 yr old in first feis. I won the light jig and reel trophy... the other girl won the reel... I was happy for her because everybody wnats a gold!!! plus that judge we had seems to dislike me... I wasnt nervous at all, and I think I wasnt really thinking much about it. I got a wig there :)

i did really well, and my friend and i, who were competing together, had such a fun time. i placed in everything except reel, where i placed 6th because i forgot my left foot of second step! why? because my boyfriend at the time had walked into the room and i got too excited to see him ;P
but for fun stories, i ended up buying brand new softshoes 30 minutes before i danced and wore them, my wig that i had ordered was way too short, and i had to buy a new one, i had razor burn on my legs and with the sock glue it really REALLY stung lol. Oh, and my make-up looked terrible because i wasnt used to the lighting.
other than that, it was awesome!

I was so pleasantly surprised at my first feis. I had no idea what to expect, because i've never done well with competitive performance things.
However, I was super confident in my steps, I felt okay in front of the crowd, and I got 2 1sts and a 2nd and moved 3 of my 4 dances up right away.
That's what hooked me permanently!

I started competeing in advanced beginner when i was 12, so at my first feis it was only me and two other girls, I got two firsts and two seconds, needless to say i didn't stay there long!

I was scared stiff the whole time. Everything was new and unfamiliar, and the only thing in which I did at all well in was art! But I still got three medals and a trophy, and the feis was over pretty quickly (this one DIDN'T run on Irish time, for a change!). All in all, pretty cool.

My first feis was the best! I still laugh about it with my mom. I only placed in one dance, 5th in my light jig. My dad made me call all of our relatives and tell them I got 5th place at the Texas State Championships & Feis. It sounded very impressive! I actually have a picture from my first feis, which is so lucky! My mother kept telling me to point my toe for the camera man, and I insisted that I was. Needless to say I look at it now and laugh at my technique.

I did forget my single jig though:( I cried backstage for atleast 10 minutes.

Lets just say I was too young to understand the whole concept of competing :P! I thought a feis was just a fancy word for a show where you did two steps and walked back to the back of the stage. Thats exactly what I did :). Then after my 4? dances I told my mom I wanted to go home as this was our schools feis so we drove home and nobody knew about my results :)

Wow now I really want to know lol!
