Hi,
If anyone has any experience with VCA at Melbourne University I have a few questions regarding their graduate/post graduate programmes.
Thanks
PS: cross-posted on teachers board.
I am not located in Australia so any& all information is appreciated about the dance programme. 5 Replies to Melbourne University question |

VCA has an excellent name in the community. In Melbourne there are two straight dance degree's on offer. VCA and Deakin University. I am at Deakin University as I wanted to study Bachelor of Education and I wouldn't have been able to at VCA during the dance degree.
I do very much regret this decision though. The dance curriculum at Deakin University isn't very well run (my point of view). Many student's go into the degree with little to none dance experience and therefore first year is spent learning the up-most basics of contemporary dance. I am yet to break a sweat in a Deakin dance class.
I know alot of the teachers that teach at the VCA, they have alot of performance experience. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of Ballet classes through the 2nd and 3rd years though, which also deterred me from the degree.
Best of luck. |

^Thanks for your reply.
I am also wondering about the graduate diploma, (just a terminology question as i see there are "graduate diploma" and "graduate degree" listed: is that like an MA or MFA equivalent in North America? I'm comparing various MFA programmes I am hoping to attend, and so far VCA is at the top of my list.
I'm getting more information from the uni as well.
Are the master's programmes more modern based?
Is Melbourne an expensive city and what is it like in general? |

I am not sure about the diplomas. In order to do your masters though, you need to have completed a Bachelor program (that I know of).
Deakin may be a good option for yourself as it has student housing on campus etc.
In terms of Melbourne. It's an amazing city. I have travelled the world and I love travelling, but Melbourne truly is by far my favourite. We are renowned for our shopping, restaurants, sport and entertainment. There is always something happening, be it a concert, sporting event or festival.
I am very hardcore into AFL, so I love nothing more than heading to the football during the weekends.
But we are a very pretty state. Lot's of gorgeous parks, buildings etc.
We are expensive, but not as expensive as Sydney. There are alot of affordable housing options. |

I do have my BFA so that's why I was asking about the Masters.
So far everything I read about the city and university looks lovely.
Thanks again for your input |

Oh yep. You can do a masters in choreography then or there are several other masters. |
