It's a bit of a toughie, since the Fling is in my top-3 of favourite dances, but seeing that Hornpipe and Blue Bonnets are my # 1 and 2, I'm going for National. That said, Flora and Jig are my least favourite dances, so ...
Yeah, still Nationals though ... |

Personally, I love the Lilt and Flora. The costumes are gorgeous. And my dancing daugher loves Hornpipe and Jig. So it has to be National. Although she does look fantastic doing the STrews in her kilt! |

Highland over nationals any day! I don't mind the more highland-eque nationals (Barracks, Laddie, JL MacKenzie) and I really like the Hornpipe, but the girly nationals dances just aren't my style. I avoid the Jig at all costs! |

I started Scottish Step and Country dancing 10 years before my first Highland lesson. I've always preferred performance over competition, so I guess I just like the dances that allow more interpretation. LOVE the hornpipe, but also enjoy the Lilt. |

My daughter likes the nationals best. I think because she has been doing the highland dances for so long, the nationals give her a chance to dance something else. And she likes the "graceful" movements of the more feminine dances. |

I only found this out at the last competition but I really love Higlands. The entire competition was Nationals, and I had this urge to do a Fling. My practices seemed so empty and I was quite depressed. So I voted Highlands.
Although, if there was a character option, I'd pick it. A competition without the Hornpipe is like an Oreo without the cream filling. Still awesome, but dry, and lacking the good stuff in the middle. In my opinion anyways. |

I really like the highland dances because, like the sword dance, you get to move a lot. I also love the felling of doing extended highcuts with your kilt flapping behind you. Once i was in a competition and i was doing the reel and when me and my partner's kilts touched!!! |

Highland for sure. The nationals are very nice too but just not as entertaining as the highland ones. |

Highland, definitely. My first studio- that I was with for eight years- focused a lot more on the highlands than the nationals, so I've always simply danced them better. I do love the hornpipe, though- aside from the reel it's my favourit! I also like the jig, although I'm not very good at it because I dance too lightly |
