I am thinking I might want to do a contemporary/modern pointe piece for my senior solo. I just got the sansha flower fantasy shoes that are beautiful and I want to wear them for something. What are your thoughts on this type of dance? Any suggestions on moves to do? Or videos to watch of something similar? 2 Replies to Thoughts on a contemporary pointe piece |

If you're en pointe, it's not modern dance. Modern dance explores significant off-vertical use of the spine --- none of which makes much sense en pointe. |

I am a fan of contemp/pointe. to start generating movement for your solo, take traditional ballet steps and "tweek" them. Play with moving from turned out to parallel when en poine (for example, eschappe into 4th em pointe, turn both legs in them out quickly, then flick your front leg up across the back leg, like a tango-leg flick). Play around with pressing into a deep 2nd position plie en pointe. And no ballet arms
Check out LINES Ballet for some amazing contemp ballet. They have lots of youtube vids
Good luck on your piece! |
