Is it possible to self study at home? I take classes at the local YMCA twice per week but I don't feel like it is a 'real' class I guess. We do the same sequences every week and it's all very beginner. I am the youngest in the class by far and most are at least 2 decades older than me. I was just accepting the fact that I would have to settle for it but then last night we had a sub for class and she was amazing! She used 'real' terms and the class was more at my level. She teaches the 5am class at the Y, but my husband works 3rd shift and I cannot get a sitter that early in the morning so that is out. No other classes are available in my area that I know of. There are some that are quite a drive (30-60 miles one way) but with the price of gas and being unemployed it isn't an option.
I will continue with the class but I would like to do some more challenging and in-depth self study at home. Most dvds I have seem to be the same stuff and don't go past beginner level. Any suggestions? 2 Replies to Yoga questions |

Try some sites like Exercisetv.tv and there are some good workouts on Youtube. For Yoga I sometimes make my own workout of different poses that I pick up from many sites. I travel all the time so I am in the same kind of boat I get most of my workouts from online or DVD. |

Ashtanga Primary Series. Ideally, you should have a teacher to work with but if you don't, there are several dvds that you can learn from.
www.amazon.com . . .
Interestingly, amazon listed them in the order that I would have recommended them. Actyally, Kino has a new dvd coming out that is probably better than the one listed on amazon:
www.elephantjournal.com . . .
I don't think it's out yet.
I swear by the Ashtanga system. You could practice primary for the rest of your life and you would still challenge yourself and learn something new on a daily basis. Ashtanga is the perfect home practice. |
