Ballet Choreography What are some variations that are fast and for a short but advanced ballet dancer? en>fr fr>en By BalletAlyssa Comments: 140, member since Sun Apr 30, 2006On Mon Apr 04, 2011 04:01 PM
Hey!
I'm looking to learn a new ballet variation that would be good for me. I am good at petit allegro and I like dances to be fairly quick.
Anyone have any suggestions that are good for someone like me who is 5'1"?
Looking forward to the suggestions! 6 Replies to What are some variations that are fast and for a short but advanced ballet dancer? |

Yellow Fairly (bird / song) from Sleeping Beauty comes to mind. THAT is some fast footwork. |

Sounds like we're pretty similar in preference and height - I don't know what styles you like (and I'm especially a fan of Balanchine, whose stuff probably isn't practical to recommend because of copyright but even so a few variations from his Raymonda come to mind), but here are some ideas of light quick things...
1st odalisque in Corsaire www.youtube.com . . . this video's maybe a little slow, but it's nearly all petit allegro
Flower festival in Genzano: www.youtube.com . . . a few different versions floating around, this one starts a bit before 5 minutes in.
Cupid www.youtube.com . . .
Flames of Paris www.youtube.com . . . don't know how you feel about hops on pointe, if you could count that with petite allegro; personally i like them but i understand they're unpopular
Bacchante from Walpurgisnacht www.youtube.com . . . longer variation. a few hops again, but plenty of other stuff too. You don't need the guys onstage to do it.
From Carmen, www.youtube.com . . . starts around 5 minutes. i like how Zizi Jeanmaire does it, has more quick intricate footwork in it to my memory, but i can't find it online.
From Cinderella, Spring Fairy www.youtube.com . . . bit after 3 minutes in. a few different versions floating around and can go faster, for example www.youtube.com . . . if you don't like hops.
Paquita www.youtube.com . . . perhaps fairly simple, but good chance to show off entrechat six |
