I am trying out for gymnastics at my HS in the spring and I am wondering what I should do over the summer. I have danced and cheered since second grade so at least flexibility isn't a problem. i also used to do gymnastics but had to quit:( I am taking a gymnastics class over the summer, but is it enough?

Taking a summer class is definitely a good move so you can back the feeling of all four events and not just floor exercise. Besides that keep working on your flexibility but also work on your strength and stamina. The most important part of gymnastics training is conditioning. You have to be very strong in order to do all the skills safely. How often is your gymnastics class? If it's only once or twice a week I would see if you could sign up for a second class to help get you get ready. On the days that you don't have class work on conditioning on your own such as running, jumping rope, swimming, pushups, situps, pilates, lifting weights (but only if you know how to do so properly) etc. Be sure not to burn yourself out though and take at least one day off from strenuous activity. Good luck!

No one can really tell you that without seeing your team and without seeing you.

Every High school team is different. Some will take absolutely every body who try out, and find a stage for them all to be comfortable at.

Others will not take anyone who can't at least do a back tuck, and there are every different type in between.

With your dance and cheer background you should to great. A gymnastics class over the summer will help but it should be at least twice a week to make a difference in a few months.

Also just stay active during the summer, some kids spend their summer in front of the television and computer screens and lose all their fitness and tone.
