Do you go by any special name
I just go by my first name, something that is very usual in my country.
How do you get to the classes you assist?
I take the train, bus and walk. It takes 1,5 hours, but it's worth it
Do you get a discount or any other form of pay?
No, because my school is only driven by voulenteer work. Even my SO doesn't get any money!
What classes do you assist?
I'm in the advanced class, and I assist all the other classes, which is about 5 hours a week.
Have you ever been at the studio so long (on one particular day) that you need to bring food?
Yes, on Thursdag I'm first assisting for 2.5 hours and then I have an hour private class. Since I dance a lot when I'm assisting, I need some food in the middle.
How did you become a TA?
When I started getting a better and more committed dancer, my SO asked iF I wanted to assist. She could use some help, and I would get to dance more hours as well.
Do you want to keep teaching when you're older?
Yes! I'm not sure if I want to start my own school, but I would love to teach.
What kind of responsibilities do you have as a TA?
I stand in the front and dance when they learn new coreoraphies because my SO has some problems with her knees. I also help to correct the dancers, and there are ALWAYS someone who have forgotten what we did last week, then I take them to another room and go over the steps again. SO also often splits the class so that she has one half, and I have the other.
Are you the only TA for the class(es) you assist with or are there others?
Sometimes I'm the only one assisting, other times there are two others as well.
How long have you been assisting for?
I've been assisting for about 8 months.
What's your favorite part of the job?
That I get to dance a lot too, and the feeling of acheivement when I can see the dancers get better. That is when I am reminded of how wonderful it must be to be a teacher!
What part do you struggle with?
I haven't quite founf out how strict I should be, and how much I should be their friend. Some of them are just two years younger than me, but when I'm assisting, I try to keep it at a teacher-student level.
What tips do you have for other TA's?
Learn as much as you can from your teacher! Be strict, but fair. Don't let them mess around. Don't accept anything that you know your SO wouldn't.
Thank you for making this thread, I like it!
