We have a dad at the studio that took up photography as a hobby maybe 5 years ago. He is really talented and here are 2 videos he put together with pictures from one of our shows. I enjoy them...hope you do too!

GAH! BEAUTIFUL! No secret that you all have the most STUNNING students.

I found myself watching the costumes as much as the technique. I can see that they use some of the catalog costumes for the littles. But there are some CREATIVE put togethers that are not in the books. I just made the switch to non-traditional costuming this year for my older group.

One of my favorites is the nurse/doctor? w/ hightop converse. LOVE.

Then the beautiful sheer lace dress over their basic in the trio. Gorgeous.

How do they choose? Do they leave it up to the teachers? Who takes the time to hunt down pieces? Do the older kids have input or is it driven by teacher concept?

All the older groups for competition have custom made costumes by a seamstress or lately for the senior performing group they have been finding stuff at places like Forever 21 or other stores that have everyday street clothes like skirts, tank tops, vests, jackets at Walmart.

The costumes are almost always set by the teachers. Sometimes we have a team "mom" that we explain what we are looking for and they will go out and look for examples and bring a few back with information on how many each store in town has, sizes etc. Sometimes the teachers do the running around if we are a little unsure of what we are looking for and will say, "oh yes, that's exactly it!"

Sometimes the kids have input on solos, duos, and trios. Not so much for any group costumes. I love the creativity of our studio and the diversity of the teachers. We are all cross trained in many styles but we teach only the thing we are best at teaching. You will never have the same person teaching hip hop and contemporary, or contemporary and technique. Even though most of us could handle a class...our studio owner is fairly strict on you being one of the best she can find in a particular genre, and it seems to work well for us. Now if we can just get someone through to the finals of SYTYCD!! We've had so many so close to being in the top 20.

Thank you for the costume info.

The kids are amazing! I'll bet someone will push through at some point. It's not as if J.R. is an unknown in the industry.

Always impressed by the big studios that push out consistent tech and amazing dancers and amazing choreography. My other favorite is the Gold School. ::sigh::
