I'm 13, i started dance last summer. i was a gymnast for a year before i started dance. i take jazz, ballet, acrobatics and I'm also on my studios dance team. I recently moved up into a much more advanced ballet/jazz class(an hour of ballet, half on hour jazz) and i love the class.
but in ballet... I'm horrible. I've never been good at memorizing choreography, and its awful. We'll do a simple frappe combination at the bar, for example, 3 to the front, double side, 3 to the back, double side, to the front, side, alternating front to back.
and as soon as i get confused, i panic, i just get so nervous and frazzled. I'll ask her to explain it again, and still, i don't get it! I'm better at slower combos with stuff like fondues or Developes. but faster combos involving tendue's or degages, I make a complete fool of myself. i tell myself "Don't panic, you'll get this" but when i get one thing wrong my mind turns off and i tank. i feel like everyone is watching me and thinking "He should NOT be in that class!". i just don't know what to do anymore, all i know is have got to learn to pick up choreography faster! i've never had any trouble with this at competitions, and its only been getting really bad only recently, but nationals are coming up and I'm terrified! i know this isn't really in the right category but i would some advice from a judges point of view. so if anyone has any tips or advice that would be amazing! thanks!
