HI everyone,
I have been studying classical ballet, tap, and jazz for ages now, and my teacher said i should talk contemporary, or modern, to improve my technique, and variety of styles- as i have only studied classical. Does anyone have any tips, or pointers that I should know, or that wouldbe helpful?
Thanks 5 Replies to new to modern dance |

I would really pay attention to how your teachers and seasoned classmates execute movements. Sometimes ballet dancers do modern with a "ballet accent." Try to avoid this so that your modern dancing looks like modern. Having said that, ballet will have given you a lot of good foundation for modern. Use it to your advantage. |

Do it, broaden your horizons, it will help you become a more rounded dancer.
Remember though, you will feel like you've lost the pointe shoes for the first couple of weeks whilst you adjust to the new style.
What technique are you looking at trying? |

Use your ballet training to your advantage in modern class! Make your movement flowing and dance to the music!
Have fun
