About Roy Arias Dance NYC Since childhood, Badaweyah has shared a symbiotic relationship with music, poetry and dance. Spending her life as a violinist, a stage actress and a night club blues singer paved a path to the sounds of the Middle East. In early 2000 during Badaweyah's research on her first love, the life of Bedouin and Berber culture and rituals, she was reintroduced to that essential Egyptian cultural artistic expression, Raqs Sharqy(Belly Dance). Approaching the dance as an anthropologist, it was only fitting that she would learn from Middle Eastern Dance legends here in the US and Egypt. Badaweyah believes the dance to be an essential form of self expression and is elated to share her knowledge with any mind seeking this art form. Badaweyah has performed in Egypt, at Lincoln Center and regularly in NYC. Her emotional connection and classical grace has continued to be sought out, requested and studied here in the US as well as internationally.
Classes will begin by learning the vocabulary of that centuries-old art form through a repetitive basic warm up, teaching muscle memory, balance, control, dexterity and Congruity to the primary conduit...the Music. Class progresses through a series of exercises to enhance technique and “shimmies”. We'll coalesce these endeavors into teaching a student the Art of improvisation and choreography. The “traveling” movements will be introduced to increase your knowledge and making your dance more multi dimensional. This class aims to boost confidence for stage performance, while strengthening your technique and enhancing your understanding of Egyptian Dance and Music. Open to all levels. |
