I am running stale on camps for 3-6 year olds! Anyone mind just sharing their themes? We have Nutcracker, Flowers & Fairies & Princess camps. These have been most popular so we keep resorting to them. However, they are old and it hinders kids from coming because they have already done them! 12 Replies to summer camps for 3-6 year olds |

This week we are doing Frogs, next week is Dr. Seuss. Our circus one is popular and sold out two classes. Its not really a dance camp, but we do clowning and "physical theatre" (tumbling), puppets and magic. |

We did Princess Camp, Barbie Ballet Camp (picked a different Barbie ballet to theme each day: Nutcracker, Swan Lake, 12 Dancing Princesses, and then made a craft and learned a dance for each movie. Thursday and Friday were review/catch-up days. It was awesome! We made tutus and swan lake headpieces with colorful feathers... so much fun!) Coming up we have Dance Through the Decades Camp and of course, Justin Bieber Camp. JB camp is past sold out, yet the center I work for keeps enrolling dancers. There are currently 2 teachers scheduled to be working this class with 35 dancers signed up ages 4-11!!! |

Great ideas here! Other than Princess and Fairy/Garden, we've done:
Circus - clown songs, "tightrope" walking
Around the World - just did this one this year - made japanese fans
Other Ideas I'd Like to Do: Nursery Rhymes, Beach Fun, Colors, Tea Party |

I always have success with:
Pajama Party, Fairy Tales and Fantasies, Beach Party, Under The Big Top, Rodeo Round Up and Fabulicious (Diva-Like with hair styles and nail painting).
You can also do Nature Walk, Colors, Seasons, Animals, or Disney-Based in general... |

Oh, we're also doing Ballet Beach Bash, Combo Cruise, and Tumbling Safari as "camps" but instead of every day for a week, they're once a week for 6 weeks. We've had great success with these camps for families that want the "camp" type class but are unable to commit to the morning time frame of the normal camp classes. |

We've done Seuss camps for the 3 of the last 4 years and we haven't been sued yet. However we are careful with what we title them... A Visit to Whoville and Seuss-Turning back the pages are this year! Sometimes it has been Stepping Out With Seuss. I think as long as you avoid titling it with one of the book names or putting the Doctor part in front... I don't know... my boss takes care of all this sort of thing. I work for a parks and rec department so we might even be covered under our County's library!

I missed the frog question...
We are actually a performing arts program, so our camp is not only a dance camp, but a Drama or Musical Theatre component. This week was actually all three, so we had a little scene, Jazz danced to Yummy, Yummy, Yummy from Timon and Pumba; scene; Ballet to Bein' Green by Kermit; scene; Musical Theatre to We All Stand Together by Paul McCartney. That was our performance aspect... We also had a visit from a conversation biologist who brought in live frogs and snakes, painted a back drop (not well, but it looked cute), made "flies" for them to "eat" and of course played games and practiced.
I would suggest finding some frog songs (I used the search here and found tons). Ballet actually lends itself to a frog theme quite nicely...

My daughter has done (for the past 3 summers)
* Ballet Birds (Swan Lake and Firebird)
* Pirates and Princesses (Le Corsaire)
* Dancing Dolls (Coppelia)
She has had a blast and I've appreciated that they use classical musical and real ballets rather than stuff geared to kids, but has still been age appropriate and fun. |
