New. Greatest. Show. EVER! | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By FloorXpert Comments: 29, member since Wed Jul 20, 2011On Sat Jul 30, 2011 07:23 PM
These moms have nothing on gymnastic moms! My question is, why doesn't the coach get rid of these moms? Allowing them to sit & watch everyday is making it worse! That's one thing I like about most twirling groups NO PARENTS IN THE GYM! And at the gym where I coach gymnastics, you are not allowed to stay & watch your kid.
But I like that this show addresses REAL issues! Like the MamaCoach! WHO HASN'T HAD ON OF THOSE? And then she changes the kids routine! SO FUNNY! Then you have the "KISS UP MOM", the "COMPLAIN ABOUT EVERYTHING MOM" the "MY KID DOESN'T GET ENOUGH ATTENTION MOM" and the infamous "I USED TO BE A DANCER MOM"!
This show is pure delight! I LOVE IT! | |

Is anyone on here from the Pittsburgh area who knows anything about the "AbbyLee Studio"? Is she as good as the show is making her? Just curious. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By SesameSt79 Comments: 407, member since Thu Feb 06, 2003On Sun Jul 31, 2011 08:49 AM
I made my girls watch the show and informed them that they were never allowed to complain about me ever again after that
But my real question... anyone know where their traveling make-up train cases came from? We frequently have to go from the gym floor to the stage and I would LOVE to have one of those. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By FloorXpert Comments: 29, member since Wed Jul 20, 2011On Sun Jul 31, 2011 04:35 PM
Everyone I know buys them at Yazmo. They're great, and they have some good sales! Our girls have the silver ones & we love them! yazmo.com | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By FloorXpert Comments: 29, member since Wed Jul 20, 2011On Sun Jul 31, 2011 04:39 PM
BTW, Yazmo also has good quality professional make-up. And their prices are very reasonable. We like the "Glitz Kit". Here's the link again: yazmo.com | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By TwirlFan Comments: 22, member since Tue Jul 22, 2008On Sun Jul 31, 2011 08:49 PM
I love the show! Those girls are really good dancers! I was pretty appalled at the "Proste-tot" costume, but most of the time I side with Abby. I don't understand why she doesn't send Cathy and Vivi packing, after she changed the routine right before competition. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By FloorXpert Comments: 29, member since Wed Jul 20, 2011On Wed Aug 17, 2011 12:29 AM
This show is CRAZY! I can't believe the crap she takes from those parents. I've seen alot of over the top moms, but never anything like this! She claims to run a tight ship, but she actually lets these moms make her look foolish! | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By SesameSt79 Comments: 407, member since Thu Feb 06, 2003On Fri Aug 19, 2011 09:53 PM
I don't always agree with her decisions, but she knows her stuff. Plus I look at it this way...
Those parents knew what they were getting into. They are making an active choice to have their daughters at her studio. By placing their children there, they are also allowing Abby to make decisions regarding their child's dance career. Essentially, if they don't like it, leave an go elsewhere or deal with it. I definitely don't always agree with her decisions (the Prosti-Tot routine being one of them), but when asked, Abby has been able to give comprehensible, accurate answers to the questions she's been asked.
The part I love is watching Chloe's mom. I have seen this a million times in twirling. From what I see, Maddie and Chloe are almost evenly matched in terms of technique. However, Maddie has they stage presence and connection that Chloe lacks. Maddie also appears to put in many more hours at the studio than Chloe, taking extra lessons, etc. Now, instead of her mom acknowledging that Chloe isn't as good as Maddie, she continues to claim that Maddie is Abby's favorite and that's why she wins/is the center/gets attention and it has nothing to do with her dedication.
So, now I pose a question... How do you feel about Abby's teaching techniques? Would you take from her if you lived in that area? | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By TwirlsRUs Comments: 35, member since Thu Jun 14, 2007On Sat Aug 20, 2011 12:12 PM
I find Abby to be abrasive in general and I do not like how she is not sensitive to each of the girls as individuals. Example: in the last episode, poor Maddie was about to hurl and Abby didn't seem aware whatsoever. Unacceptable. These girls are so young. Regardless of the success of her dancers, the means does not justify the end - to me, anyway. Also - those moms are RIDICULOUS, so I don't blame Abby for being dismissive of them - but parents have questions and like to understand 'the big picture'. By not being more forthcoming, Abby is actually fueling their bad behavior. I do hope she is not like that towards the moms of her other students. Personally, I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By SesameSt79 Comments: 407, member since Thu Feb 06, 2003On Sat Aug 20, 2011 01:47 PM
TwirlsRUs, from what I could glean from her website (what can I say... I love to research) these girls are in her pre-professional program. These girls are literally working towards careers in dance. That doesn't mean i agree with the way she teaches, but she is correct that most directors aren't going to care if Cosette (the little girl role in Les Mes and one of the most popular child female leads on Broadway) is about to hurl if he's blocking her scenes. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By TwirlsRUs Comments: 35, member since Thu Jun 14, 2007On Sat Aug 20, 2011 02:03 PM
Understood. However, from a practical perspective, humans occassionally get ill, even those in pre-professional programs. The director may mind if he has to stop altogether to clean up vomit. At least let the kid go toss cookies in the bathroom. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By FloorXpert Comments: 29, member since Wed Jul 20, 2011On Mon Aug 29, 2011 02:06 AM
Being a gymnastic coach, and involved in the sport for many years, I can tell you that Abby is mild compared to some of the coaches I've worked with! And as far as injuries go, all elite althletes are expected to work thru injuries and illnesses. I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just saying it exists! | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By FloorXpert Comments: 29, member since Wed Jul 20, 2011On Tue Sep 06, 2011 02:36 PM
I am absolutely loving this show! Not only are the moms hysterical, I love that it's covering all aspects of coaching/teaching! Every coach has dealt with moms like this. From the obsessed former dancer mom, to the overachiever mom, the do anything mom, the complain about everything mom, the non team player mom, etc, etc! And it also addresses important dancer issues. Teen problems, injuries, being at the bottom, and being at the top! Has anyone else noticed how "rehearsed" Maddie sounds when she speaks on camera? Mommy has been very busy! I just really love the show, and I really hope it gets picked up for another season! | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By AmyVictoria Comments: 124, member since Sun Jan 09, 2011On Wed Sep 14, 2011 09:29 AM
I need to see this programme! Being from the UK, not sure how I will do it! I know we have Mum's (or Mom's!) within the Disco world who can fit all these sections!

A ballet spin-off is in negotiations, possibly called "Ballerina Moms", and my studio will be highlighted, featuring the drama of casting, going en pointe, getting solos, and the antics our mom are always up to, in order to get us more attention. There will be seven featured dancers, and we are not yet sure who they will be, though we already know three, me, a boy named greg, and an older girl named madisyn. Others vying for posdible spots include my younger brother, my best friend ainsley, and girls named julia, tayler, hannah, sophie, melanie and nisha. Lifetime has been talking to our teachers about it and we will find out after the second season airs if it will happen | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By Crazy_Twirler Comments: 272, member since Sun Jul 15, 2007On Tue Nov 22, 2011 10:28 PM

I probably couldn't stomach one episode of Dance Moms. I can't stand stupid and ridiculous and childish taken together in one sitting. Just let me twirl the hour (or so) it airs. | re: Dance Moms! en>fr fr>en By Dream_chaser Comments: 24006, member since Thu Jul 26, 2001On Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:35 PM
I watched one episode, and did not, again. No matter what they are really like, I am not a fan of it, personally. | ReplySendWatch
