Cheerleading What to do to prepare for cheer tryouts? mainly tumbling en>fr fr>en By DanceforTheWin Comments: 12, member since Thu Jul 22, 2010On Sat Jul 30, 2011 11:10 AM
I didn't make cheer this year due to lack of tumbling. I reeeaallllyyy wanna learn to tumble but I can't get to a gym until around january, and tryouts are in may. Would 5 months of tumbling be enough to learn intermediate-advanced tumbling skills? And is there anything I can do in the meantime to work on my tumbling skills?
P.S I have been a cheerleader since for ever so I'm not really worried about jumps, motions, flexibility, stunts etc. 2 Replies to What to do to prepare for cheer tryouts? mainly tumbling |

Do you have any tumbling experience at all? What skills are required for this team? Why can't you start a class until January? When you do start a class, how many hours a week will you be going?
As for preparing, one thing I have found as a former gymnast who became a cheerleader is that most cheer teams conditioning is inadequate for gymnastics skills. Many cheerleaders are not able to do pushups, pullups, V-ups etc, and this is really important for tumbling and being able to support your own body weight and throw your body through the air in a controlled fashion. I would really work on your strength, upper body, core and legs and also work on back and shoulder flexibility. |

I have no tumbling experience. There aren't really any required skills, but at least a back handspring is suggested. I can't start until at least january because of Dance classes and marching band. I'm not sure how long I'll be in a gym. Thanks for the advice on building strength.(: I'll definately be working on that! |
