Body Art My Tattoo! :) en>fr fr>en By OMGjaimye Comments: 458, member since Fri Mar 26, 2010On Thu Aug 18, 2011 10:19 AM
I am so pleased with it, it's unreal. I ended up just going in with my idea, writing it out and getting it done all within about 20 minutes. My artist was amazing and didn't even flinch when I said I wanted it in brown ink instead of black! I was sooo glad about that because I've had my heart set on brown for ages but I'd done some research and the general consensus is that most artists refuse to use brown for some reason. Fading perhaps? Basically, I just want it to look like henna after awhile, I think henna-brown is the prettiest color.
Anyway! I absolutely love it and so I just wanted to show it off a bit! It's on my right side, below my ribs and curving to the back slightly. The picture is at an odd angle because it's in an odd spot and I took the photo myself. It's lyrics from the Beatles song "Here Comes the Sun" with one major tweak ..
It says:
here comes the Son
little darlin'
This is probably my very favorite song ever, but I didn't want just plain lyrics. I wanted it to be different and unique to only me, so I thought for a while about how I would do this. I decided early on that I didn't want any pictures of suns or anything like that, nothing gimmicky. Finally it just came to me one day, to make everything lowercase and change the 'sun' to 'Son' ... a play on words, of course - the 'Son' referring to Son of God/Jesus. I wanted both this tattoo and something that symbolizes my faith, but I hate the idea of tattoos that scream "I'm a Christian, wooooooohoooo" actually. So I thought this was perfect. You almost have to look twice to even notice the spelling change and it is so much more personal to me now!

I'll try to put this as delicately as possible...
It looks like your artist didn't know what s/he was doing. The skin looks way more damaged than it should. A little bit of redness and blood is to be expected, but that just doesn't look right. The lines aren't clean at all. I'd have to see another picture of it healed to be sure, but my first instinct is you got ripped off. |

I agree with Pinup. I just got my second tattoo yesterday so I'm not uber experienced when it comes to body art, but there's no way your skin should look as torn and ripped as it does.
The picture I attached is a picture of my tattoo yesterday immediately after I got it done. The swelling should go down within a half an hour and there should be no skin that looks ripped or torn. Bleeding is fairly normal depending on the size and placement of the tattoo.
It's a really cute idea, but you're probably gonna have to baby it quite a bit. Moisturize it as needed, and try to not to hit or rub or scratch it. When it scabs do NOT pull or pick at the scabs as this will pull out the ink. |

Hmm :/
Well, I'm positive that he knew what he was doing, I saw his portfolio and years of his work displayed on several friends. I took that picture just as I'd cleaned it for the first time and did ointment and all that. So maybe the unclean lines/gunk you see is from that. I took another picture of it, what do you think now? It's still at an odd angle to get the whole thing in and up close enough, and there's a shadow where there shouldn't be over 'here.' |

It looks better, but the lines still aren't that smooth. It looks kind of patchy to me. There doesn't appear to be as much skin damage as I initially thought, but I'm still not confident with his skill doing letters and/or fine details. It doesn't look like it'll scar when it's healed and that was my fear when I first saw it. |

Well, thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it. Like I said, it's my first so I don't really have a clue what's good or bad. His work is guaranteed of course, so I can go back in and get it touched up/re-lined (maybe even by someone else?) or whatever for free if it doesn't end up healing as nicely.
I'm trying to stay positive about it though, it's not like I can just erase it ... :/ |

^Not really. Anyone who sees it will comment on it for the rest of her life. It's a matter of if she's willing to live with that or not. |

This is probably a stupid question but I'm going ask anyhow.
Why is it 'Son' inseatead of 'Sun'?
Unless this isn't from the Beatles song.... |

@Pinup -- I have 3 tattoos and although people comment on them, even if they aren't their style, no one has said anything negative. I can't imagine anyone coming up to you and saying, "that looks bad." I mean really? That would take some ugly nerve. And I imagine it would mess with someone's self confidence. As long as OMGjaimye likes it, that IS all that matters. It's her body and her tattoo. I like the phrase and there are soo many different fonts out there it could totally have been on purpose. Tattoos are so personal that no matter what it looks like, it means a lot to the person getting it. |

You ever meet a woman who tells you "nice shoes", but her face (and the grimace she's wearing) says "those shoes are so ugly"? I think that's more what would happen (at least, that's what I got from Pin Up).
THAT BEING SAID - I think the 2nd photo is a LOT better than the first. I also think that it could be easily touched up to look good. No worries OP. =) |

^ Pinup has something like 18 tattoos so she knows what she's talking about. It's true that tattoos aren't just about their owners; other people see them whether you like it or not and, yes, some people are vocal enough to tell a perfect stranger that they don't like his/her tattoo. That's not what Pinup was doing, though. This is a public forum where people post their tattoos for feedback. She was just expressing concern that OMGjaimye's skin might be damaged much more than it should be for simple line work. Wouldn't you want to know? I would. |

^ That does happen. People may very well tell you they aren't into your tattoo but there isn't a need for it. I don't care how many tattoos someone has. And since the OP posted that she loves her tat, keep the responses to a positive nature. If it WAS a scarring comment or health issue, sure mention how to clean it better and other such advice on keep up. I just don't see how "It looks like your artist didn't know what s/he was doing" is productive that's all. I agree the first pic looks torn but OP loves it so I'm happy for her. Just sayin' I wouldn't like to hear a response that isn't so nice about a permanent mark on my body. To each his own I guess No mean intent here! |
