The Northern Ontario School of Scottish Dance is asking ALL highland dancers, highland dance teachers, highland dance judges, highland dance schools/studios to select a charity of their choice to donate to and to participate in a WORLD WIDE RELAY HIGHLAND FLING around the globe.
This will be a 4 or 6 step Scottish Highland Fling commencing at 9 a.m. January 21st in Timmins Ontario Canada.
Register yourself or your studio on the above Facebook page lets see how many participate and how much can be raised for non-profit charities!
If you want people to support your charity during your fling. Post your official charity web site there. Please make sure this that these are official charities that will help those in need in health care, poverty, and so on.
Just a note, this event occurs where YOU dance. Mind you, it would be awesome if everyone came to Timmins! Commit, donate, and fling where ever you are to whichever charity of your choice on January 21st.
I will post some charity websites that you can consider.
On January 22nd we'll take a tally of all who participated and the amount raised. Seeing as for some this is the start of the dance season in a few weeks, it's a great time to get started. So reely run fast and tell everyone who wears ghillies and a kilt and loves to dance! 21 Replies to The First Annual World Wide Highland Fling For Charity |

What a fab idea to not only raise funds for charity but to get some publicity for highland dancing.
Sadly I hold my classes on a Sunday afternoon, but will be doing my bit for charity during our annual prize giving/display.
Good luck to everyone and will be keeping an eye on the Facebook event for pics after

If the exact date doesn't work for you or your studio, you could do the fundraising and the dancing the week before and announce the results on the 22nd. */;) |

Up to 36 individuals have joined on to this project. It is really amazing to see the different events and how they are being planned.
Our studio is going to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (formerly Ontario - they've merged into a national organization)..with Highland for Heart. We've run this fit for heart event for three years and each year raised a little more.
It doesn't matter which charitie(s) you choose to support...just even one dollar makes a difference somewhere in the world.
Hope to see more of the dancers and teachers and judges joining in to Fling Around The World For Charity! |

HIGHLAND FOR HEART -
Though we are 2 1/2 months away from the event, fundraising has begun online. Please support the Heart and Stroke Foundation by donating if you are not participating. You can do so by attending your local Heart and Stroke office or going online at
...
www.facebook.com . . .
This is a safe link. I work as an Area Administrator for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and can answer any questions you may have.
This year's event is in memory of Mr. MacDonald, grandfather to one of our dancers.
Your support will help save lives |

With only a week to go I'd be interested to hear how many schools and how many dancers are now planning to take part in the Worldwide Highland Fling. We are holding a coffee morning with 50 dancers taking part and raising money for Mencap. |

There are two schools part-taking in our recital on the 21st. Mine and my mothers. She has her 2 students, and I have 15 or so dancing.
We've turned it into a recital, and we're having a pipe band come as well! Can't wait for it! |
