Hello!
So i have a group of little ballet dancers (ages 5-7)I want them to dance with a sun prop but I need a little inspiration. I want them to be handheld... Either on a stick or maybe with a band/elastic so they can hold it (something like a muff maybe)? Anyways I am open to any suggestions or ideas. 5 Replies to Making Sun Props |

You could start with paper plates or cardboard cut into circles then use craft paper and glitter to decorate them. Not super sturdy but they should last long enough for the performance.
A more sturdy option would be to make the forms out of wire and cover them with fabric. |

Our little ones danced to Little Black Rain Cloud this year and we made them with Smiley face Balloons on a stick (I couldn't bear to have them hold just black balloons so we had the sun peak through). One of the parents made them by supporting the cloud (made out of poster board) around the balloon with a piece of styrofoam which was attached to the stick. |

You can get large, styrofoam, circles and cover with fabric, or paper, in yellow. Use yellow painted pop sticks coming out of the side and, of course a long spindle to hold. Shade the "rays". |

You can also use embroidery hoops. You can first paint the hoops, then add fabric to them. after that, you can add glitter to look more "radiant", or you can add strips of felt that has been stiffened to represent the sun's rays.
To make it easier to hold, you can first insert a thin dowel into the hoops, then proceed with the fabric and such... |

Those are all wonderful ideas! I was at the dollar store and was thinking maybe using a frisbee covered with fabric then adding a stick some how could work. Then I saw the large bubble wands and thought that could work too (with shorter wand handles i think). I love the idea of adding stiff felt to make the rays! I was gonna attempt to do it with some fabric/tulle/crepe paper of some sort...
Any more suggestions are welcome! |
