No, of course not. I'm not 30, but I know that dance is and should be open to everyone of every size and age. You should only have to worry about dancing if your doctor has indicated that there is a medical reason that such movement or activity would be detrimental to your health, which has nothing to do with age. I know a guy that started for ballet in his 50s, and loved every moment of it.

Can you breathe? Can you walk? Then you're probably good.

Of course, there's an amount of realism that comes with being an adult that dances - you'll never go pro (the closest to pro that you might hope for is one day teaching your own classes), you don't get to compete (my SO is willing to take me to competitions, but I don't get to do team stuff, and soloing just isn't all that entertaining after a while). Recital is about the most you can hope for in terms of performing.

There's also the fact that so much gets in the way when you're an adult and dancing - when you're a kid, you pretty much live to dance. When you're an adult, especially if you're a single parent - kids home with the flu, you're missing dance. Parent teacher conference night, you're missing dance. It's much more of a pain to get to class when you're a grown up.

That said, it's absolutely worth it. It's way more fun than my Jillian Michaels tape I just did! :O

I know I'm not in my 30s yet...BUT....

I have a 48 year old student that is more in shape than I'll probably ever be!

You're never too old to learn something new. You're as old as you feel (quoted by my 97 year old aunt)!
